SOURCE: New Motor, Heater not working, Leaking Antifreeze

Your car is overheating because you did not bleed the cooling system. The hanging hose may be the overflow drain. Unbolt the coolant reservoir, and raise it as high as you can. Start the motor, and add coolant until the heater starts blowing heat. You will see air bubbles in the reservoir until all of the air is out. This is a common procedure when doing any cooling system maintenance on Celicas.

SOURCE: 99 Camry idle was surging

Hi, vacuum leak at the intake manifold or vacuum hose can cause a high idle. On carbuerated vehicles the idle adjustment screw may be set to high. On fuel injected vehicles, the Idle Air Control(IAC) circuit or valve may be faulty. On newer vehicles you may be able to get a trouble code to help pinpoint the problem.

I have a 94 dodge carvan i change spark plugs and took off the intake cover and now it runs rough

  • With engine running listen for a whistle indicating a vacuum hose leak. It is easy for a vacuum hose to pull loose while removing replacing plugs.
  • Check for spark-plug leads . You can check at night and look for spark.
  • Remove and check each spark plug. The ceramic tops are easy to crack.
  • Check the spark gap, hitting or picking up residue on the tip is common.

How to know if i need to replace the idle control vavle

This could be due to

- faulty ignition leads leaking spark
- worn spark plugs
- cracked distributor cap
- vacuum leaks at the intake plenum, large flexible air intake hose, or small vacuum hose
- EGR valve faulty

If you do suspect the IAC valve (it was a common culprit in Corollas for instance) then see here for procedures p212

The EGR valve is on p153

Diagnostic code P1294 says target idle speed not reached. The first probable cause said it was a vacuum leak. After following the vacuum diagram I found a line coming from the bottom of the purge sole

There are so many vacuum hoses on this vehicle that finding a vacuum leak will be difficult. Most likely, if the hoses look in good shape the leak is at one of the many connectors. Pull off one at a time and reseat it but first check the end of each hose for cracked rubber...a small crack can play havic with vacuum sensing!

Doesn't sopund like vac leak. Need to check computer codes. Some parts stores will help check code for free, like O'Reillys, etc. My GUESS is coolant temp sensor, which is usually inexpensive easy fix. But you NEED to get code checked to find out for sure.

Hi- I have a volvo v70 automatic, this fault comes and goes.....the engine idle is very eratic and also not always at the same time there is a terrible whistling noise from the engine. Thanks Phil

Sounds like you have a leaking vacuum line. If it has a hole or is cracked, it will leak or **** air causing the idle to be erratic. The vacuum lines or hoses should be traced down for any cracks or dry rot and replaced. The heat from the engine and the emissions causes the hoses to break down and a lot of people don't realize these should be replaced. The vacuum lines or hoses coming from the intake area is the main area to look at.

Took my car to a parts store and was told i had a vaccumm leak so now i need a diagram to find the leak

I am assuming they scanned the codes and pulled the code associated with the check engine light? And this is what told them you had a vacuum leak? Is the vacuum leak associated with any type of system like your ac isnt working properly or something or the car is running poorly? You can inspect most of your vacuum hoses without a diagram and you can use a mighty vac to test them to make sure they are good. Just visually inspect them and look for cracked and damaged hoses and replace them.
