Question about Oldsmobile Cars & Trucks
I was driving and with no warning my car cut off.The radio and everything stayed on so its not the battery. I checked the oil which seems fine but a little low, trans fluid is fine.I recently went to the car and turned my key backwards and i heard a buzz when i turned it back into the on position...the fuse box with the ign switch was ticking..PLEASE HELP this is my only way to and from work and school.
See if you can jump start it and have it stay running. If you have gauges on the dash, check the Alternator gauge to make sure it's charging good. It doesn't take much juice to keep the radio going so don't assume the battery is good.

Sounds like carbon build up on the contacts inside the electrical ignition switch which is not the key cylinder. Its located on the lower steering coluum if coluum shift or if you have a floor shift it will be inside the console

the ignition lock cylider gets jammed try messing with the shifter my alero has done the same thing to me. the ignition cylinders on these the grand-ams and about five other gm cars with the dash mounted ignition are very ****-poor and a new switch at the dealer is 175.00 and you have to have it fitted to your key as the new one comes without a key
