Check your intake and exhaust modules. I have a 1987 D21 and had the same problem (if I understand your post). I replaced the modules located behind the driver side headlights and it fixed the problem. Good luck! I hope this helps.

try changing your engine position sensor, that should fix it. but before you do, do what I did and get a simple diagnostic computer for less than $60.00 just to make sure. it helped me find and fix all the lights that had turned on on my dash.

it sounds like gas starvation or if deisel it could be air in the system, either gas or deisel there could be a possible pump problem, if gas it could be ignition timing is out,

it should be under the car close to the driver side door. if you can't see it trace it from the fuel tank it should be attached to the fuel line. if you have the repolacement in your hand you will know what you're looking for

It is either a Z24i, or a KA24E. You should find the identification number on the left side of the block at the rear. It should say what size it is.
