Question about 1996 Pontiac Firebird

1 Answer

Headlights will not go on

All of a sudden out of nowhere this problem arose. When I press the light switch the lights do not go on nor do the light motors open. Also when you depress the light swith the dome light goes out. The dssh lights do not work also. All the fuses appear ok.

Help Please

The lights do not come on in either position.

The motors work if you jump them, however the headlights still do not. Now a few other things stopped and the fuses are good. ie: dome light, doorlocks, hatch lock

This is a VERY Common Problem on the Older Firebirds. The lights will not come on in the Down Position. They switch on upon Raising. These Motors stop working and need to be Replaced. The Dash lights Flickering is a Direct Problem with the Headlights not Rising.

Check your Relay for the Headlights

OK, The next step here would be to have a Mechanic Run a Computer Diagnostics on the Car and locate the Problem. We have a Bigger Problem than just Fuses and Relays.

I have the owners manual in front of me but nowhere does it list the relay for the right side headlight or a relay for either headlight. Fuses are good. SSP relays dont say what they are for.

Tree is not a relay for the headlights. The headlights are ground side controlled by the FEM module. The FEM module receives lighting information from the instrument cluster which is the "gateway" for the lighting info. The headlight switch as well as the high/low and turn signal information is routed through the instrument cluster and is them delivered to the FEM module or the rear lighting control module.

Headlight switch turns on parking lights but not headlights. Have to hold high beam switch on to have headlights at night.

Replace light switch assembly. Remenber some switches pull up to flash headlights and press down to change from low to high--press down again goes from high to low.

I have a 2005 Outback. Suddenly the lights won't turn off. I can turn the headlights on and off but the parking lights front and rear will not turn off. Any suggestions?

Hi it sounds like you have hit the parklight switch, in some models there is a swith in the steering colum surround peice on the top that is hard to notice and it activates the park lights, give it a try as it may have been knocked on

Headlights won't go on; brights, parking lights OK

Hello,I see you have a problem with your low beams inoperative. It sounds as if your multi function switch has either gone bad. If you will dim and brighten your lights the switch may go back to working. You have to shake it in all directions. If they come back to working you will want to replace the switch as soon as posible on this car. Please rate this answer, Thank you.

either the headlight switch is defective or the dimmer is, it can't be anything else, do the hi beams work ok, have you tried wiggling the dimmer switch to see if the low beams flicker?
