Hi

Normally all circuits should be dead when you switch off the ignition.

Only usual live one, is the radiator electric fan.

You should hear this running after you switch off, for only a short while, if you listen you can eliminate this.

Perhaps glove box, or trunk lights are sticking on ? but normally you only get them if side lamps are on, but still worth checking !

You will have to try disconnecting the battery over a weekend, if it is flat on Monday, it must be the battery.

Good Luck

P.S. Don´t forget to give me a rating please !

John.

New Alternator wont hold a charge

Alternator generates power to the battery. The battery is not holding a charge? How old is the battery? Do you have a test meter. Check the output voltage of the alternator, it should be about 13.5 volts. Check battery connections and make sure they are clean and tight. You can do a simple test for battery strength, with a freshly charged battery, turn the headlights on, try and start the car, if the lights go dim, the battery is weak.

96 olds cutlass ciera sl wont hold charge with new battery and alternator

Well the charge light means the alternator is not charging the battery.
You would need to get the alternator and circuits tested on the car.
It could be a bad connection somewhere or other wiring problem.

Battery wont hold a charge. it takes a charge, i drove it around the block, kept it running in park and when i turned it off it wouldn't turn back on.

First, it can damage your alternator to try to charge a dead battery by just driving or running the car. The alternator is designed to maintain the state of charge already in a battery.
Old (pre mid 60's cars with generators could do that).
Have your battery charged and tested. if it checks out, then have the charging system in the car tested. On most newer Jeeps, the regulator is not in the alternator it is part of the computer. If the alternator checks as good but it is not charging, that may be why.
Hopefully you just need a new battery.

Take it to Sears or another large auto parts store and have them test the condition of the battery. They do the testing for free!

My 1998 isuzu will get jump started but wont hold the charge i thought after it runs for a couple of mins it should recharge it self wats wrong snl

If the battery is bad it will not hold a charge. Have your battery checked a the local parts house or your mechanic. Also have the charging and starting systems checked to insure they are working properly. Battery should have a reading of about 12.8 volts, alternator should be putting out between 13 and 14 volts. Starter should not draw to many amps.

My battery wont hold a charge even when jumped.

The battery may have been bad. They replaced it, and probably neglected to test the alternator. You now need to have both tested.

Won't hold a charge

its the battery. the battery holds the charge and the alternator charges it so when you jump the car it stays running because you alternator is providing power when you shut the car off you have a bad battery that isnt holding the charge needed to start it again.
