How do i Reconnect the speedo cable on my 1978 GMC Truck with 350 motor, 4x4?

Depending on which end needs to be reattached, At the Speedometer Head or at the Transfer Case, or at the Cruise Control Module (if equipped with Cruise Control).

At the Transfer Case : Underneath the truck, on the left side of the transfer case, near the tail housing/rear of the transfer case (if it's a NP203 or NP205), there should be a small rectangular box threaded onto the transfer case, the other end (facing away from the transfer case) has a threaded end on it where you'll thread the end of the speedometer cable on.

At the Speedometer : Behind the instrument cluster, protruding from the back of the speedometer, is a round male port that the speedometer cable snaps onto. You just push it onto the back of the speedometer and it locks into place. Some cables have a metal end for the Speedometer end, some have a plastic end. The ones with the plastic end will sometimes break and won't stay locked in place at the speedometer.

If it's equipped with Cruise Control, you'll have 2 Speedometer Cables, an Upper Cable (From the Cruise Control Module to the Speedometer) and a Lower Cable (from the Transfer Case to the Cruise Control Module.) Both ends of the Lower Cable have Female Threaded ends (one to thread onto the box on the side of the transfer case, one to thread onto the Cruise Control). The Upper Cable has one threaded end and one Clip On/Press On end. Reconnecting the cable is the same as the methods I mentioned above, but with 2 additional threaded connections on to the Cruise Control Module (which is usually found on the Fenderwell in the engine compartment)

Where is the speed sensor located on a 2001 oldsmobile intrigue?

speed sensor is on right side of transaxle just above where right axle shaft go's into trans . if the speed sensor is at fault your speedometer will not work and your ses light shoulded be on .check if your brake lights are working . brake switch could be faulty . disconnect the cruse control cable at throttle and at cruise module (left shock tower) to see if pull ribbon in module is broken . other than that you need to start doing electrical tests at the module

My cruise control doesnt work any suggestions?

Make sure it's on before pressing the cruise control button.
If it's on, then check the vacuum control for the cruise control, and verify the cable is intact.
Check the wires and connections to the electronic module for the cruise control.
Is the speedometer cable operating the speedometer correctly, if so equipped?

I hope this helps.

Cruise control not working when it was it seammed to make the motor run very ruff when i disengaged it by using brake pedal

If the cruise control makes the engine seem to run very rough until disengaging it, there could be a problem with the engine itself. As, most cruise control systems just pull on the throttle cable to maintain speed on the highway based on setting the speed with the button.

So, I would look into the engine maybe having an issue with spark plugs, or wires, or another tuneup or mechanical issue.

I need to know where the speedometer cable plugs into the transmission please on a 1994 honda civic 5-speed

It goes into trans just behind engine block. If yours trans is on the drivers side than lean over fender look between engine block and firewall. If other side lean over that fender and due the same.

'99 Beetle cruise control surge and speedometer has slight flutter.Occasionally speedometer drops to zero mph and cruise will then stop working. The "surge" is so bad that you can not drive with cruise on....

I would take a blind guess and sat the speedo sensor has an issue. 99' beetle should have an 01M auto, and the speed sensor is also the dipstick for the final differental drive. search around this area of the trans for the cable and snoop around. loose at the trans ? bad connection somewhere??

REmove speedo cable & inspect inner cable for frayed wire. If not frayed lube cable with graphite grease preferably or oil. replace cable. this should solve problem. If not replace cable.

I have a P1698 code and I need to know how to replace the ECM or PCM

The P1698 code means that no digital data is being received by the powertrain controller from the transmission control module, located on the right inner fender. The manual says to check the ccd bus wires between the module and the rest of the system using the Chrysler diagnostic readout box. But if you don't have one then I think you can do the same thing by measuring for continuity (near 0 resistance) between pin 4 of its plug and pin 11 of the data link plug under the dash or pin 59 of the powertrain controller plug.
Then check the resistance between pin 43 if its plug and pin 3 of the data link connector or pin 60 of the powertrain controller plug. The powertrain controller is on the opposite side of the engine compartment on the left inner fender. These module plugs are held in place by a bolt. If the continuity between the transmission and the powertrain CCD wires checks to be ok, then according to the manual the trans controller should be replaced

How do I convert my 1979 Trans Am from cruise control to non cruise control? I basically want to remove the cruise and have the speedometer work correctly.

if your trans am is an automatic, there should be 3 levers on your carbuator. 1 would be kickdown cable and run to your tranni. 2 would be throttle and run into your firewall. 3 would be cruise control which would run to the unit on the drivers side inside the engine compartment. Disconnect this lever at the carb and propping it up out of the way will disable crusie and leave you're speedometer functional. If you ever want to hook it back up, it would easly possible this way.

Replaced TH700R4 on 1988 c/k1500.now cruise control and speedometer do not work.tested vss & wiring from vss to cruise control module and from ccm to powertrain control module.both check good. Repair...

I would look at the wiring around the bellhousing first to be sure you have not pinched any wires. On that truck, behind the glove box is the PCM, and another white colored box called a DRAC. The DRAC controls the speedometer not the PCM. Look into replacing it. Also check your trans and gauge fuses. Good Luck.
