I HAVE A 2001 PONTIAC SUNFIRE 2.2 AUTOMATIC. WHEN I REV IT UP TO 4 RPM THEN IT WILL FLUCTUATE FROM 4RPM TO 3RPM UNTIL I LET OFF THE GAS. IT WILL NOT GO HIGHER THAN 4RPM (GOES UP TO 4 THEN DOWN TO 3 OVER AND OVER AGAIN WHEN I HAVE THE GAS PRESSED ALL THE WAY DOWN) WHITE SMOKE COMES OUT OF THE TAILPIPE. IT IDLES FUNNY AND IT TAKES MORE THAN 30 MINUTES FOR MY CAR TO HEAT UP THE WINDOWS ARE STILL ICY AFTER 30 MINUTES. IF ANYONE CAN GIVE ANY ADVICE ON ANY OF THESE PROBLEMS I WOULD GREATLY APPRECIATE IT. THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME.

Re: WIERD NOISE WHEN REVED
Sounds like you have engine coolant burning in cyliders and white vapour comming from tailpipe.checkyour coolant reservoir for level.also check your oil and make sure it is not milky color and brown like oil should be.2.2 L blow head gasket and runs rough.please rate this good luck.

If engine sizes are correct match for each vehicle engine swap wont be a problem u can possibly even drop the unibody of cars and swap depending on engine sizes match just unplug everything 8 bolt lift body pull unibody out get new rubber underneith for body support everything is manageble
Have your fuel pressure and volumn checked, nd if ok, have the exhaust checked for restriction(usually clogged converter) If converter is bad, have engine performance anylized,as there is a reason it clogged. Don't overlook coolant getting in the combustion chambers.
Sunfires and cavaliers always reved a bit higher because of the way they are built but it is an AEOD transmission (Automatic Electronic OverDrive). Since I dont know what rpm and how fast you are going it is hard to tell if there is a probleme or not. I would compare with another similar car and decide what to do.
You need to raise the vehicle and start it. Remove the plug near where the passenger side driveshaft comes out. The head of the plug is 7/16. Trans fluid will stream out of the hole when the engine is running when the transmission is full, If fluid doesn't run out, fill the trans until fluid runs out. The fill cap is red and it is on top under and around the air cleaner box. If you need more help let me know.
sounds like a tourqe converter issueif its an automatic or an issue with the synchro's if the vehicle is manual transmission if its manual look at your clutch pedal see if it has play in it or if anything is bent first then check the transmission fluid
