SOURCE: How do replace heater core in 2002 Pontiac Gran Prix

i do believe you have to take the passengers side dash apart behind the glove compartment. go to autozone and get a manual or go to the library and check the chiltons manual. this is not an easy job. how bad is the leak? if its not bad these heater cores are made of all aluminum. i would buy a bottle of that radiator additive and see if that takes care of the problem first. it only cost about 5 bucks a bottle and it may permanantly fix your problem.

SOURCE: 2005 pontiac grand prix, code p0641 came on. What

DTC P0641 The powertrain control module (PCM) provides a 5-volt reference to the following sensors:

The throttle position (TP) sensor 1
The accelerator pedal position (APP) sensor 2
The engine cooling fan speed sensor
The AC pressure sensor
The fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor
The oil pressure sensor (OPS)
The PCM monitors voltage on the 5-volt reference circuit. If the voltage is higher or lower than required, DTC P0641 will set.

Conditions for Setting the DTC
The PCM detects a voltage that is higher or lower than required on the 5-volt reference circuit. The above condition is present for 1 second. Action Taken When the DTC Sets The control module illuminates the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) when the diagnostic runs and fails. The control module records the operating conditions at the time the diagnostic fails. The control module stores this information in the Freeze Frame/Failure Records.
Conditions for Clearing the MIL/DTC The control module turns OFF the malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) after 3 consecutive ignition cycles that the diagnostic runs and does not fail. A current DTC, Last Test Failed, clears when the diagnostic runs and passes. A history DTC clears after 40 consecutive warm-up cycles, if no failures are reported by this or any other emission related diagnostic. Clear the MIL and the DTC with a scan tool.

Yes i can be dangerous, depending which issues mentioned above has triggered the code such as a faulty gas peddle position sensor. the code can also cause a reduced engine power to activate.

Thank you for using Fixya and best advice is to have the dealer address these issues. A tech 2 scanner would be needed to address the P0641 DTC code.

This could be the blend door on the heater. It is stuck on the wrong position because it is not fully in the heating mode. I certainly hope that no one changed all those parts without checking the mode and blend doors first.

Where is the heater core located on the 2005 pontiac grand prix? how do i replace it?

almost all heater cores are located under the dashboard, just above the passenger's feet, encased in a black plastic box. It ain't easy to take the dash apart and change it. I would first make sure it is not under the GM warranty as 5 years is too short a life for the core. If it is out of warranty then I would get a new core at a parts store and pay an auto heating and air conditioning repair shop to put it in. That way you beat the high dealer parts and labor price.

No heat in 2005 grand prix - not the thermostat

Most likey cause is the valve that cuts off the hot water from flowing through the heater radiator core in summer. Sometimes this valve is cable operated, but mostly by vacumn servos. Find the offending servo & make sure the vacumn tube is connected and undamaged. If this is ok check its operation and replace if it's not moving the valve.

2005 Grand Prix heater works fine when blower is off-air coming thru vent gets hot; once blower is turned on air turns cold. Why?

Sounds like a clogged heater core- insufficient coolant circulating through heater core, and as soon as you blow air past the core, it get cooled off.

I want to flush the heater core

Take off the hoses at the bulkhead/firewall that go to te heater core, use a garden hose and back flush the core by forcing water through the smaller of the 2 hose nipples, if the water runs right through then you have a heater air temp control door actuator problem

Can the heater core of a 2005 pontiac grand prix be flushed?

Replacing the heater is a challenge even to a seasoned pro, why? because of the number of components u will have to remove to access the heater core, the entire dash does'nt need to come out, but allot of the trim on it as well as the center console do, about a 4-8 hour job, a factory repair manual is not an optional thing, u need one or u will never get the core out much less a new one in with ruining it in the process.
