Question about 2001 Jeep Grand Cherokee
My 2001 Grand Cherokee WJ automatic will not start going up through the gears until engine revs are at 3500/4000 rpm after that she is fine and will cruise for hours at say 70 mph with no problems. The Engine management light came on so I took it to my Jeep dealer who has not yet told me the fault code (could only speak to non technical receptionists) but says I need a new gearbox. When I disputed this over the phone and said I thought that it was just the input and/or output speed sensors on the transmission I was told that although there is only a minor fault in the gearbox; it cannot be accessed and thus I have to have a new gearbox. Has anyone heard of this extreme remedy for what appears to be a minor problem. Thanks for any help
I've juste read your post.
I have a 3.1 Jeep Grand Cherokee from 2001.
After changing oil in engine and transmission différent lights in the dashboard had begin to make a signal. Besides, the transmisson don't word correctly.
The car dealer said me that it was no use to repair it, I just had to change the car.
Have you resolved you problem ?
Can anybody help me ?
I have done some research and it sounds more like the torque convertor may be the problem,As the speed sensor would affect the whole speed range and not just the range under 3500rpm's
I will continue to check on other possible causes while you are having the other parts replaced.
