Check your radiator for cold spots when its warmed up. I think you may have some blockage either in your radiator or the hose going to your heater core. Also check the serpentine belt tension and the pulley on your water pump.
heater hoses run from the rear of the block to the water pump. One hose into the heater should be hotter than the other because heat is transferred in the heater in the car. . The cooling system draws water from the bottom of the radiator ( water pump inlet)which is always cooler than the top hose and dispenses it throughout the engine and heads including the heater core. It is then pushed past the thermostat with all the heat from the engine to the top of the radiator where it is cooled down by the air passing through the radiator . Check that the air vent for the cabin is set to recirculated cabin air and not fresh air from the outside as it will require recirculated air to increase in temperature to work properly
Check the vacuum lines to make sure they are correctly connected and in good shape. If they are not, then the system wont move the dampers to allow hot air into the heat vents. A second possibility is a clogged heater core, which is not allowing hot water to circulate through it. As you say the head has been replaced, I would have someone insure every thing was reconnected correctly. It could be the hoses to the heater core are reversed!
LOOKING AT HEATER CORE TOP HOSE COOLANT FLOW IN BACK OUT THROUGH THE BOTTOM HEATER CORE HOSE CHECK WATER PUMP BYPASS HOSE SEE IF IT GETS HOT.IF NOT COULD BE BLOCKAGE AT BYPASS HOSE FROM WATER PUMP OR WATER COULD BE FAULTY GETTING TOO WEAK PUMP COOLANT THROUGH SYSTEM.IF COOLANT GETTING HOT GOING TO HEATER CORE THE HEATER CORE AND COOLANT SYSTEM NEED FLUSHING OUT.
Why was radiator replaced?Did it have heat before ? If it was plugged, the heater core may also be plugged. Try flushing it with a water hose in both directions. I dont know why the botton radiator hose would be cold, the radiator should be a uniform temp and the air coming through the radiator should be HOT, when the engine is at operating temp. What condition was the old coolant? if it was rusty, the water pump may have lower flow than normal.
Does your temp gauge read normal? if it does then the thremostat is ok,but sadly the water pump is going bad this is typical of jeeps at an idle the heater cools off because the water pump fins are worn enough to not circulate through the heater core and when you step on the gas the increased rpm move the water fast enough to circulate through the heater,it is possible that the heater core is plugged but I doubt it as a plugged heater core would not get hot either it would be cold or just luke warm all the time.
If your thermostat aint seized shut, its your heater core. You need a new one. Your heater core is another element that makes the antifreeze move in a circular motion. If it aint moving in a circular motion, your car is overheating, meaning that it could be your thermostat, heatercore, or waterpump, but I think that its your heater core. If it is your water pump, your check engine light would come on.
