2000 cadillac deville idle high

I had the same problem with my 2000 Sedan DeVille DHS but it first showed up as the car dying when I tried to start it. The only way I could keep it running was to use the gas pedal. I cleaned the throttle body and thought this solved my problem but it returned and also went away with no apparent reason. I also started having problems with the car idling too fast, which would also go away. I removed the IAC valve (idle air control valve) and cleaned it. Thought this might have solved the problem but it came right back. After researching the internet I decided to replace the TPS (throttle position sensor) since it was a fairly inexpensive part ($34) and this didn't solve the problem. I finally replaced the IAC valve and the problem was solved. Told a friend of mine who was having the same problem with his Cadillac and it solved his problem. Delphi part number CV10012. Will find it on for $60 and free shipping. Was easy to install on my car. A dealer will charge you a fortune for the part and installation.

Where is the idle control valve on the 1999 Cadillac De Ville and is it the same thing as the idler motor?

The IAC or idle air control valve is mounted in the throttle body and uses an air passage that opens or closes to increase idle speed where as an idle motor usually pushes against the throttle plate to increase idle speed most idle motors (stepper motors) where phased out and was never used on port fuel injected engines chances are you have an IAC valve

I need to know where it's located and how to take off and put on idle control switch

Disconnect the negative cable from the battery terminal...Locate the IAC valve on the side of the engine, near the intake...Remove the electric cable on the back of the IAC valve. Remove the screws that attach to the IAC valve and set them aside...
Pull the IAC out of the Cadillac DeVille and replace with new valve...Connect the IAC valve to the wire and reconnect the screws. Turn the screws so that they are completely tightened...Reconnect the negative cable to the battery and start engine to test valve.

Good luck, i hope this helps.

Hi, I'm having problems with my 2003 cadillac cts. It drives fine but when I put in park it the rpms go up significantly. Any ideas why this would be happening? Thanks

My dads Ford 250 had the same issue as well, the problem it might be suffering may come from the EGR valve or sensors at the throttle body. The sensor there at the throttle body is called an Idler Control Module, which controls the idle at which you'r is at when driving and at a stop. Many times carbon can build up inside and cause it to malfunction. If you can locate it then removing it and cleaning it is somthing you may want to try. As for the egr valve well, that should be replaced at a certain mileage of the vehicles life, so you may want to replace that as well.

Hope this Helps!
