1997 Saturn Key Stuck In Ignition

This just started happening 2 days ago. The 1st time it got stuck my bf was able to get it out. Now it is really stuck && wont come out. It will go into lock but will not come out. It still cranks up && everything the key will just not come out. Is there a key release button or something? Is there something I can do myself with out paying alot of $$ to a mechanic? Thanks

Same problem, & this is my 3rd Saturn with this same problem.  I insisted that Saturn NOT lubricate the part as it does absolutely nothing (They did it on my previous Saturns with same problem).  The only solution that worked was for them to REPLACE this part.  Then all was fine.  I am going thru this again now but they refuse to replace it til the key refuses to disengage for them. Of course, it remained stuck for "only" 5 sec for them, but that wasn't long enough to convince them there's a problem.  I told them to check the internet & they'll realize I'm not making this up.  Good luck.

There should be a release button on the bottom of the steering column to let the key go to the lock position and be removed

My 1997 Saturn had smoke wafting from the vents nearest the windshield an now my key is stuck in the ignition in the ACC position

Wiggle the key up and down while turning it to the off position. It may help to rapidly wiggle the stirring wheel back and forth. this happened on my mom's Saturn. I ended up having to replace the ignition.

My key is stuck in the ignition of my 1993 Saturn and won't move or come out. I thought maybe I had left my lights on last night since the car didn't start and the battery seemed to be dead, but then

Your ignition could be stuck. That happened to me on my 2002 Chevy Malibu with 150,000 miles on it. The ignition sometimes gets stuck and freezes up. You'll have to pull it out and put a new one in. You can use the new key or have it re keyed to fit your old keys.

Honda odyssey 1997, key stuck in ignition, wont let us push it in to turn the last click.

Does this car have an automatic transmission. If so does the shifter have a button on the side of the handle. if it doe's there is a switch inside that maybe stuck and will need to be fixed or replaced. It is this switch that is causing the key to be stuck.

This happened to me two weeks ago in my 2006 Ford Fusion

Good Luck

My 97 blazer wont start or turn over, now my key is stuck

Shake the shifter or press up past park and it will free the key. The pins in the ignition get easily stuck on GM vehicles. I would also assume that you may have a short or bad negative ground cable from motor to body, door switch wiring, or radio. Otherwise your altenator may be bad

Key stuck in ignition of 1996 Toyota 4Runner

This truck has a switch in the shifter assembly that tells the ignition the truck is in Park or not. If the shifter doesn't hit that switch right this can happen. Also, there is a component in the ignition (a solenoid) that allows the key to be released if the Park switch is pushed. To be sure it's one of these two things, try this.... Get the key stuck, then disconnect the battery. If the key comes right out, it's either the switch or the solenoid. Good luck!
