Question about 1994 Mazda Protege
The check engine light turns on and stays on when driving around the speed of 65mph but when the car is turned off the engine light shuts off until driving at that speed again..i KNOW its is not the gas cap being to loose....and i am 1700 miles away from home with only enough money to get my self back what could be the problem and would i be able to make it back home
Keep it under 65mph!
Go to the nearest auto parts store and ask them to check it with a code reader. Advanced Auto Parts will usually do this for free!

Well take it to an AutoZone or other auto parts dealer and have the codes read. AutoZone reads them for free generally, other places aren't free usually. My guess is that you have a transmission problem and that what ever gear is being used at that speed is throwing some kind of error. From the codes given, we should be able to figure out what is wrong. Either post the code here or the shop that you have them read at will be able to tell you what they mean. Sorry for the bad news so far.
