Having problems getting the engine to start when we try to turn over the key!

Tried to use the "Fuel Reset" button, didn't work, what would you suggest we try next?

If you pushed the fuel reset button when you didn't need to, it may now be in the off position. Sometimes they don.t pop back out. First I would turn the key on to accessories off and on for three second intervals. and listen for the fuel pump to hum. You may have to get someone to listen near the tank.Turn key on than off. If you do not hear the hum, check the fuse for the fuel system. It may say fuel pump on the back of the cover. Check and replace if needed. If it's ok,or you do replace it, and still no humming in the fuel pump, chances are that the pump is infact bad. Be sure your fuel reset is back in the reset position, they can be a headache at times. If this doesn't seem to work, I would next say a plugged filter, [ only if pump is humming ] Fords can be funny like that. You could also bring car into a shop and have a fuel pressure test, but if you're like me, you like to save $$$. Good luck, let me know how you make out. Please rate my solution.

first most GM OEM systems will need to recognize the key first and foremost ,to do that you will need to roll window down on driver door,turn the key to the run position and with engine NOT running leave the key on for 10 minutes exactly ..then turn ignition off then try to start engine. if original system is working engine should start normally

Lets start at the beginning.
You say it cranks but will not start, right ?
The warning lights are supposed to come on with the key on and then go off once the engine starts.
If the engine cranks but will not start, someone will need to figure out if it is lacking fuel to the injectors or spark to the plugs, or something else. One way we check it is to look for spark at the plugs, check the fuel pressure, and try starting fluid in the throttle body.

Make sure it's getting fuel. Try using some ether or starting fluid. If it rumbles to life but doesn't stay running then there's a problem with the fuel delivery system. i.e.... Fuel pump, clogged filter, pressure regulator.... If the ether doesn't change the results you are getting now then it's a fire or sensor problem. Ignition coil, relays, sensors not signaling, PCM... Starting problem, motor cranks but won't turn over

A common fault is air in the fuel system caused by a fuel pump failure or just a simple pin hole in the fuel pipe allowing air into the fuel instead of fuel.

If you tried to start it with the wrong key you may have scrambled the Key Code for the matching Antitheft computer. There have been past incidents where this is all that you have to do to make this problem.

When you tried to Reset, (Sorry, have to Ask) did you switch the Air-ride switch instead of the Fuel pump Reset? On a Lincoln they are very near one another.

Now they make some of this stuff too Intelligent and then you can't drive your car. Before you try to determine if this is a Spark or Fuel problem try Resetting by using your Keyless Entry passcode instead of your handheld remote FOB. If that does not work and the dash does not display a steady "Check Engine" light, then disconnect the NEG battery terminal for 10 minutes and see if the system reboots after you reattach it.

If this solves the problem, you may have had any number of problems. The Antitheft could have worked, or you may have had a Relay stuck. The Relays are sequential and if one stuck and did not return to its base position, then the other Relays could not switch on.

Hello, Many times a fuel safety feature called an "Inertia sensor" will activate when a door or the trunk lid is closed hard enough to trip this sensor. You should find the sensor in the trunk on the Drivers' side of the car. The switch will be behind the carpeting and all you need to do is press a button on the switch to reset it. After doing that, your car should start if that was the problem.

If someone tried to use the wrong car key from another Ford product, then this can mess up the Security codes in the Anti-theft system. Should someone have tried to use the wrong key, you will need to tow the car to a Dealer for a reboot of the Security system.

Hello: When you turn the key on the fuel pump should run for 2 seconds if it isn't the check the f/p fuse, relay and it could be the pump itself. You might take a hammer and beat on the bottom of the fuel tank (in the center) while someone is holding the key in start (turning engine over) if it starts you have a fuel pump problem. (pump in tank)

no reset button. If the oil is overfull FIX IT. find out why the oil light is flashing, and dont drive it until that is FIXED. if you dont have oil pressure you will destroy the engine. thats why its RED and FLASHES so you will see it and turn the engine off.

sounds like you have 2 probs if you turn ign on whilst holding valet button pressed it should cancel it if not the key is poss faulty
