Hello , I know you Probebely already took care of it , but just incase you haven't , check your grounds from the engine to the engine bay , also if that didn't help , just remove both terminals from battery and reinstall them back after 1 min to reset condition, but most likely it's aground that was left loose , it's the only thing I could think of.

When should the timing belt be changed

I want to say it is every 100,000 miles. At the same time you do the timing belt replace the water pump and belt tensioner as well. They may not seem bad but go ahead and do it while being in there. It will save you problems down the road

When does the belt and timing belt need changed? How many miles for each?

On the 1.6L engine:
The timing belt should be replaced at 90,000 miles.
The drive belt should be inspected for wear or cracking every 30,000 miles. However I recommend that the drive belt be visually inspected every time the oil change is performed. It only takes a second to look at it and it keeps you aware of the belts condition on a more regular basis. This is important because there are certain conditions that can accelerate a belt's deterioration.

Normally the engine check light will come on (the light on the dash) when you see this your vehicle is ready to be serviced. Depending on the model there are specific time frames or milage set. Check your manual for details..
