Where is the stater on those cars, check it out and check all parts that move during the starting procedure like belts etc.If it goes away after starting,it might be in the starter or could be a dry fan belt making those squealing noise.
Hope this helps good luck.

My S40 T5 makes a whirring sound due to the turbo but.... I did have an issue with the right front hub bearing. Lots of road noise while driving and it got louder as I accelerated. $215 dollars for the part.

without more information about where on the engine the whirring is coming from its hard to say but I would check the idler and tentioner pulleys on the belt first.

My 2000 Explorer makes a whirring sound when you accelerate - can this noise be due to a bent tierod? The previous owner had an accident involving the front end and was told that the tierod was haywire?

Typcially tie rods will only make a clunking noise or a squeak. The whirring sound if would suspect to be a wheel bearing. When you drive, slowly turn from left to right, if the pitch changes than its the bearing.

2002 Windstar. Automatic transmission has begun to make a whirring sound when decelerating above 40 mph. Sounds very much like decelerating with a manual transmission when the clutch is not released. Pitch...

Sounds like a bad torque converter. When the torque converter is engaged, it's not "whirring" it's on decel or freewheel that it "whirs".Did you check fluid level and color?
