Have you checked to see if the ground to the chassis is good, making connection, and not rusted? That may be what is causing the harness to not have power.

Yes, but it has to be grounded to the chassis somewhere. possibly under the vehicle on the frame or maybe in he engine compartment somewhere. it could also be a broken wire somewhere in the harness possibly.

There is no 12V power to the trailer battery.

This is most likely an issue with the wiring harness going to the connector on your truck you need to start at the connector at the back of the truck and walk your way forward to the breakers under the hood (rarely is the 12 power on the trailer harness connecter simply fused since it is a higher current circuit, it usually uses a breaker just like your headlights). Before you do this find a copy of the wiring diagram for your truck so you know what you are looking for. Also a dead battery normally will not fully charge in the normal time span of a trailer being towed as you can typically figure over 6 hours to charge the type of battery (deep cycle) that is in a trailer.

2005 suburban , the trailer harness wiring behind the plug in has power for the break and right turn but has no power for riding lights or left turn ?

Find the LEFT INSTRUMENT PANEL FUSE BLOCK. At the TURN SIGNAL/FLASHER MODULE, a 10A fuse (A9?) protects the right trailer stop/turn circuit (DK GRN) which you say is OK. Back at the S/FM, a 10A fuse (A8?) protects the LEFT trailer stop/turn circuit (YEL). At the UNDER HOOD FUSE BLOCK, a 15A TRL PARK fuse (B6?) protects the running/parking lights (BRN).

Check the fuse panel inside the engine compartment it is a large black box with a lid and has several large wires going to it the fuses for the trailer harness and lights etc are in there.

I have a 2001 Chevy Silverado which I use to pull a trailer. My trailer lights don't work at all - no running lights, no signal lights, no brake lights, etc. I have hooked up another truck to the trailer...

the wiring harness is probably faulty. Get a light tester to see if power is going to the harness, and if the harness is receiving it by testing current flow on the connectors. it might just be that the harness is not receivng power and has to be replaced ( new harness is around $40, just dont buy it from a dealer)

Trailer Wiring Harness

The trailer fuses should be located out in the engine compartment inside of the fuse/relay junction box.

That is unless the trailer connector on the vehicle and the wiring were installed by someone who used an after-market trailer connector, and if that is the case then you might find the fuses up under the dash or around the fuse/relay junction box, and the fuses will most likely be inside of in-line fuse holders that are part of the after-market wiring. Here are some diagrams that might help you out.

Tail Lights Don't Work

I would take out the tail light fuse and repace with a known good fuse. Use a test light to see if you are getting power at each side of the fuse at the little metal tabs on the top of the fuse.

If you have power at each location, then something happned at the connection. You may need an owners manual with a wiring diagram.

Trailer lights

check all trailer tow fuses in panel under hood.there is a fuse for trailer brake lights and a fuse for trailer signals.but if one signal is working it is probaly broken or corroded wires at the back of the trailer plug or corroded wires inside plug.

No power to trailer running lights

Hi,

This is a known issue and to my knowledge there was even a recall order to correct this fault. It would seem the the wiring harness itself is the reason. You may want to reference these pages here and/or here.

Should you however prefer to perform a DIY, then you would need a DVM to check for voltages. This page shows the possible wiring scheme used by most manufacturers for trailer configuration.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.
