SOURCE: An automatic 2002 Mazda Millenia V6 2.5L is stuck in park

When you experience this problem, check to see if your brake lights are coming on. It could be as simple as a brake light switch malfunction. If the brake lights are functioning as the problem is occurring then you could for example have a problem with the shift interlock solenoid.

Millenia troubleshooting

many newer cars are like this, primarily because of the complex computer systems that keep them running. Advance auto or Autozone either one can test your charging system and it is free, or you can buy a load tester that also checks alternator voltage while running and just hook it up, you can also use it to test the battery when the car is not running.
