SOURCE: Crossed up my jumper cables and attempted to start

There are fusable links on cars so that when the cables are crossed it doesn't blow the computer. you will have to find it and replace it

SOURCE: Car won't accelerate

It is possible the crossed jumper cables may have damaged the ECM (engine control module).
You can try disconnecting the negative battery cable for 5 minutes and reconnecting. Start the car and drive over 45mph for 3 miles, and see if the performance improves.
If the car still does not perform properly, have the car scanned for trouble codes. Take the vehicle to your local Auto Zone or Advance Auto Parts and ask them to scan the car for codes, they will do it for you at no charge. Write the codes down and respond back.
Good luck, let me know.

SOURCE: 2006 rav4 2.4 . jumper

The inverted voltage has fried something in the ECM - sorry, you will have to replace it.
BTW the voltage is very low, a good alternator must deliver over 14.2 volts - ideally it should deliver 14.4.

Noticed that the revs would build too quickly and did not match the 2004 Rav4 speed in higher gears. 1st gear seems OK. If I accelerate gradually there are no problems. So I'm guessing I need my clutch...

You are exactly right. The clutch is going out. The cable is an automatic adjusting cable. So there is no adjustment. It will require a new clutch.

Thinking of buying a 2006 rav4 with 54000. Is there any reason I should not buy a 2006 rav? Any particular problem with this year model. It has 2.4 automatic

I also bought a used 2006 RAV4 Sport (in 2008) and I am really happy with it. What you need to look for is for a clunk, pop or knock type noise when you are turning the steering wheel left of right. I noticed it when I test drove it. There is a service bulletin ST001-08 not a Recall. The dealer would have fixed it under the 36000 warranty but I don't know if it will be fixed after that. The 2006 RAV4 has no recall problems for the accelerator.

Have a 2006 Toyota Rav4, want to change the spark plug, asking for recommendation on which plu I should use, Also there are little plastic boxes with wire going to them over the plugs .. how do you remove...

Go to the dealer and get the recommended plugs. The litttle boxes are actually coil packs; carefully disconnect electrical connector, remove bolt(s), twist coil pack left and right and pull it off the plug. Unscrew plug with proper socket then remove. You may need a piece of vacuum hose to install the new ones. Put hose snugly over the plug and carefully start to thread it in. Also put on a little anti sieze compound on the plug's threading before installation. Ask for any other help.
