SOURCE: 98 vw cabrio need to replace window regulator

THis is common Too common. As I posted before.

As I posted in the Passat questions.

The jetta may slightly differ.

Yes. If your window has fallen down and will not roll up.
99% Chance you car is suffering the Infamous VW plastic clip.

The door panel comes off With a T-10 torx or a Hex (Allen) wrench
that will fit and A large Philips Screw Driver..

Remove the Plastic cover on the inside Door handle.
And the Screw or Screw along the Bottom of the door panel.
Then remove the screws that hold the handle the the door.
They are located behind the Plastic plate you removed with a tiny screw driver earlier... Be careful not the mark up the cover whaytprying it up. It is best to pry from underneath. Where marks if made can not be seen

After the screws are out 4 I believe. The Use of a CLip tool ir best.
For getting behind the panel to pop it off. A screw driver will work.

After all the clips are released. Pull the light at the bottom of the panel down and out. Disconnect it ur push it back thought the hole it came from..

Now you need a 10mm socket, or wrench to remove the 12 bolts that hold the metal plate to the Door. Remove all the 10mm bolts, If the widow has not already fallen in the door. It should be released. By removing the Black 2" plugs. THe loosen the bolts that clamp the window the the arms. DO NOT LOOSEN THEM ALL the way, .
Disconect the all the wiring.. THe Door lock cable, can be a pain.
I think it pulls down,.
Next remove the Metal plate. that is the regulator.

On my 2002 vw cabrio, the drivers side front power window works intermittently - mostly won't work. Passenger side is fone as are the rear power windows. Is this a switch problem?

The most common problem with Cabrio auto windows is the Window regulator. Each window has it's own. My wife also owns a 2002 Cabrio, that had a mis-behaving window driver window and the passenger was locked in the up position. After inspecting the drivers window, I found one of the cable roller guides was broken, causing the cable to snag when using the window open / close, and resulting in the window seeming to have a mind of it's own. I had a local garage order the regulator for me, and then I disassembled the drivers door and installed the new regulator (problem is now solved).
The passenger window was bound up, I also had to remove the regulator and let loose the tension in the cable system by carefully removing the cover over the cable roller. This window works fine now as well.

95 vw cabrio back window won't go up

First off, if they could hear the motor, they took advantage of you already!! These windows are cable driven and there is no way to repair the motor and regulator assembly. The regulator you may be able to do by yourself depending on your skill level. A new (or used) window regulator will need to be purchased. Let me know what else you may need.

Knoking sound wile driveing it comes and goes

is it more from the front or back of the car ?? over bumps ?? while acelerating or braking ??

on the top of the front struts there's a rubber bushing called the "upper strut mount" this is a commonly replaced item. Also the sway bar bushings are frequently replaced. or, it could be something totally different..... gremlins ??

How do you replace the window regulator on a 04 vw?

Well you can find the window regulator, but you'd probably have to get it at the dealer either way, also this regulator isn't one that you want to try to replace on your own. It has 3 adjustments to adjust the window regulator or the window won't function properly. I don't recommend trying it yourself. You may try calling VW of America and see if they will help you out. They have been known to do that and they have the authority to ok it. I would try that. If that doesn't work you may be able to find a shop capable of replacing it but it isn't an easy regulator to replace, it takes special tools and knowledge of the process and to get the window adjusted right. The first one I did took me about a day to get adjusted right.

Hope helped.

Right rear window will not go up 2005 VW bug convertible what is wrong?

Can you hear the motor whirring when the switch is activated? VW makes the bracket that holds the window out of plastic. You cannot buy a replacement bracket, so most likely the window regulator is broken and it needs to be replaced.

If you do not hear the motor, then the switch could be bad, or agin the regulator may need to be replaced. It's expensive to fix VW windows.

I have a similiar problem occasionally. In my 97 vw, it usually happens when the battery terminals are loose. I just take them off, clean them and reconnect and the problem goes away for several months.
