Thanks for your reply...my car is auto...the car rough idles when stationary and when coming to a stop it seems to slip into gear not gear down as it should....research shows me is may be the torque converter and or put new seals and fluch the gearbox with new oil????confused Audi tells me we need a new gearbox???

  • Jonah Oneal Jan 07, 2013

bad torque converter make vechicle shudder when coming to a stop.do you see check engine light flashing.another thing is engine well tuned up if not that will cause transmission not shift right. code scan for faulty APP SENSOR and VSS SENSOR AND IDLE SPEED CONTROL.MAKE SURE ENGINE WELL TUNED UP GOOD SPARK PLUGS.FUEL INJECTORS CLEANED AND FUEL FILTER CHANGE.engine idling rough because need tune up. or intake manifold leak.

Clutch shudder going into first gear from stop

There are a few possible causes

- oil on the clutch plate causing uneven grip (leaking rear crank seal)
- worn engine mounts (have a good look at these)
- worn clutch pilot (centre) bearing
- broken clutch plate spring (not common)
- warped pressure plate (rare)
- warped driven plate (caused by poor installation)

For all these except the engine mounts the gearbox has to come off

I Need to top up my gearbox oil and I don't know where the filler part is on the gearbox.

Hello,
Are you referring to the front diff, rear diff or transfer case? On any of them gear boxes there is a fill plug and sometimes a drain plug. The fill plug is the plug closer to the top of the gear box. Just turn it out and wipe the metal shavings off it and fill the gearbox with the required gear lube until the lubricant just barely seeps out and that's the fill level. Plug the gear box again and your done. This is standard with gearboxes.
Regards, Tony

Fiesta started making noises either gearbox or clutch? clunks going in to reverse, shudders driving off in 1st gear

sounds like your clutch is going out, is it hard to put in gear with clutch all the way depressed? could also be the sinkronyzer going out, could be the gears in the transmission also going bad. need to check the fluid in the transmission.

LAUNCH SHUDDER. WILL A STRAIGHT PROPELLER SHAFT SOLVE THE ISSUE ON A EXTEND A CAB LONG BOX .THIS SHUDDER ALWAYS HAPPENS UNDER LOAD IE PULLING A TRAILOR OR A LOAD IN THE BOX. IT OCCASIONALY HAPPENS EMPTY...

I would be more inclined to look at the U-joints at either end of the drive line. Bent tubes usually cause vibration at speed. Jack up both rear wheels and put gearbox in neutral. Spin the wheels by hand and observe the drive line for being bent as it turns. A rare problem which allows the rear axle to twist under acceleration might be possible.

Transmission

Well, I'm not sure. Try changing the gearbox oil and try again. I saw on the other postings that most Audi gearbox problems pointing to a gearbox swap can be solved through oil change. I just had mine changed and it has reduced sluggishness and shuddering at low temperatures (from cool engine). It's a special gearbox oil you need to get from Audi, by the way.
