If no codes are set, i would suspect an intake or exhaust restriction- clogged air filter, catalytic converter, smashed exhaust pipe, or possibly a failing fuel pump is causing you to loose fuel pressure. Check your short and long term fuel trims. If they go more than -5%- i would suspect a restriction; if they are more than 5% positive- i would suspect lack of fuel.
broken timing belt/chain is a good one
no fuel ( tank empty , fuel pump not working, problem pressure regulator )
crank/cam shaft position sensors failing --wiring
immobilizer activating
ignition control module failure
failing ECM
engine seized form over heat / lack of oil
Scan for any stored error codes and check the code discription. If no code is present suspect lack of fuel. Try cleaning fuel filters. If cleanig filters dont solve change the fuel pump
You'll have to figure out if it is a fuel or ignition problem. Is the check engine light on ? Have you checked for trouble codes ? It could be a relay, the ignition module, coil, fuel pump, or a list of other things.
Three things cause an engine not to start. Lack of fuel, Lack of spark ( ignition ) and lack of compression. If you spray a little starting fluid into the aircleaner and it starts and theen quits, then you know it is a fuel problem if it won't start on starting fluid then it may be electrical. I am assuming the compression is good. If it was not then your engine would sound like a sewing machine when turning over. If it is electrical, there are quite a number of culprits, if it is fuel related suspect the pump or the power supply to the pump.
P0455 - Evaporative Emission Control System Leak Detected (no purge flow or large leak)
This indicates a fuel vapor leak or lack of purge flow in the EVAP control system. It means a large leak has been detected. The (EVAP) emission control system prevents the escape of fuel vapors from a vehicle's fuel system. Fuel vapors are routed by hoses to a charcoal canister for storage. Later, when the engine is running a purge control valve opens allowing intake vacuum to siphon the fuel vapors into the engine.
Symptoms: You likely won't notice any drivability problems.
Causes: A code p0455 most likely means one or more of the following has happened: * A loose or improperly affixed gas cap * A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand) * Other leak or damaged piece in EVAP system
Possible Solutions: With a p0455, the most common repair is to: * Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back. * Otherwise, replace the gas cap, and/or * Inspect the EVAP system for cuts/holes in tubes/hoses (you may hear a vacuum noise or smell fuel), repair if necessary
Suspect either the camshaft or crankshaft sensor is failing with engine heat. If you could get the check engine light to stay on, a scanner would likely reveal the problem. If you could hook up the scanner and drive with it on, it might reveal the problem at the moment of failure.
