This is from 'www.nissanforums.com', it should solve your problem. You can usually google your make (Nissan) and codes and get an answer...

My 98 Altima (90k miles) started throwing a P0440 around 3 months and I have recently found a solution that worked on my vehicle.

What didn't work: Clicking the gas cap to make sure it was on securely; replacing the gas cap with an OEM cap purchased from the dealer.

Quirks: After I reset the SEL, it would take about 2-3 days for the SEL to reappear. Also, if I went on trips >60miles, the SEL would go off. Also, in temperatures below 30 degrees F, the SEL would not come on.

My Solution: The EVAP Canister Vent Control Valve (CVCV). This is located on the front of the EVAP canister which is located just behind the rear, drivers side tire. It can be removed w/ 2 screws, one hose, and one electrical connection. Apparently on certain years of the Altima's, water is able to creep back up the hoses and enter the CVCC --- which causes it to rust after several years. Some ppl install a Water Separator to solve this problem before it comes a problem. In my case, it was too late.

After removing the CVCV and attempting to manipulate the valve, it was apparent what the problem was --- the valve was stuck in the open position. Being the idiot that I am, i simply closed the valve and stuck it back in my car. After about 10 miles of driving, the SEL returned.

The next day I removed the CVCV again, but this time I sprayed it WD40 and lightwieght brake fluid. I used a screwdriver to open and close the valve and it kept getting easier and easier to move as I continued to manipulate the valve. It actually got to the point where the valve would close itself w/o me moving it with the screwdriver -- it was a very fluid motion. At this time, I returned it to the vehicle.

It's been about a month now and the SEL has remained off. I have come to the conclusion that this resolved the problem.

1997 isuzu rodeo 3.2v6 trouble code p0446

Here is the description for the code. The vent system would need to be checked out to find the actual problem. It should have been fixed under factory warranty.
The P0446 codes triggered when an improper voltage signal is sent to Engine Control Module (ECM) through EVAP canister vent control valve.
Possible causes - -
- Missing Fuel cap
- Incorrect fuel filler cap used
- Fuel filler cap remains open or fails to close
- Foreign matter caught in fuel filler cap
- Vent control valve harness is open or shorted
- Vent control valve circuit poor electrical connection
- Faulty vent control valve

The check engine light stays on or comes back on when doing smog test. It passed everything on the smog test except check engine light. The indicator code is P0446.

Hi:
Your P0446 code is a Evap vent valve code: Evap vent valve has only one purpose. It closes in order to seal the vent so the EVAP system can pressurize and ensure there are no leaks. Evap vent valve is usually supplied Batt. voltage with key on. The ECM's driver controls the ground, and when grounded, activates the valve (closing it). If the ECM detects a short to ground, and open,or a short to battery voltage on the control circuit, P0446 will set. Code also may refer to ECM detecting that EVAP system is unable to achieve or maintain vacuum during test.
copyscape.gif Symptoms There will be no obvious symptoms to driver, other than MIL illumination.
Causes A code P0446 could mean one or more of the following has happened:
  • Faulty vent valve
  • Open, short or excessive resistance on Vent valve control circuit
  • Blockage of vent valve
  • Bad PCM
Possible Solutions With a P0446 OBD-II trouble code, here are some things to try:
  • Replace Vent valve
  • Repair open, short, or resistance problem in control circuit
  • Repair open, or short, or resistance problem in power circuit
  • Replace PCM

Toyota camry 1997 3.0 v-6 code p0446

That code is for the evaporative emmisions system. Here is a link to an open forum you can go to, this will help you understand what it is, and why. The vehicle on the site is a van, but the code, and parts involved are one in the same, so don't worry about the difference in vehicle. The van is a toyota, and this is the information on the p0446 code. Hope this helps you.
