SOURCE: where do i put oil in my 1978 Chevy C10 pickup

If there's no oil cap directly on one of the valve covers (it may have a breather hose attached which connects to the breather element in the breather pan), then some models require adding oil through the dipstick. If this is the case, there should be a cap type dipstick instead of the standard "hook". There are 6 different motors (8 including variations) for your truck so no manual has the exact location of the oil cap. Best of luck and hope I answered your question.

SOURCE: How to change the oil pan gasket on a 1983 chevy

It's pretty straight forward regardless of engine size. You need to remove the starter, and oil filter and the plate on the front of the bell housing.

If the engine is a V8, you need to drop the exhaust "Y" pipe. You also need to unclip the distributor cap and lay it ahead of the distributor on the intake. This is so you don't break it when you jack the motor up.

Remove the 2 long bolts in the motor mounts and carefully jack the front of the engine up. Most guys use the harmonic balancer, that's why I said carefully.Sometimes you can reinstall the bolts and lower the engine down on them and get enough clearance to pull the oil pan out. Sometimes you have to block it as high as you can get with wooden blocks. Me, I just left it on the jack.

With the engine up, remove the bolts from the pan and down it will come. Hopefully you remembered to drain it first, otherwise it's bath time. Make sure you get both surfaces cleaned well and the inside of the pan too. While you are cleaning keep an eye out for "stuff that ain't supposed to be there." Now is the best time to sort it out if you find some.

Put your new gasket on and put the pan back up and bolt it on. Torque is 80 inch.pounds or not quite 7 ft.lbs. Put everything back the way it was before you started. Hope this helps.

How to remove and install oil pan chevy 1962 c10 235/6cyl

An interesting project. Can't help but wonder why?
- Park the truck on a level surface and block the wheels unless you're using a hoist.
- Disconnect the negative battery terminal.
- Drain the engine oil.
- Remove all of the bolts that hold the edge of the oil pan to the underside of the block.
- there may be a metal cover on the front of the bell housing. If it is going to be in your way, remove it.
- Carefully pry the pan away from the block. There should be enough room to drop the pan down and slide it out.

- For the re-install, start with having everything clean, new gaskets, and appropriate gasket seal. Same as removing, only do it backwards.
- Don't forget the oil, and it's a good time to change the filter too.
Work Safe, and be patient.

Transmission won't shift from first on 1982 chevy c10 truck

It could be several things. First check the fluid level. Make sure it\'s full. Also check trhe condition of the fluid, it should be pink and smell oily. If it is a dark red or brown or smell burnt, then it needs to be changed first. second, when was the last time the fluid was changed? GM recommends 100,000 mile unless you are in heavy city traffic in areas of 90 degree weather, hilly or mountainous terrain, frequent trailer pulling or commercial delivery. In these cases, every 15,000 miles. If an oil change is in order, add a bottle of Lucas transmission treatment. Also change the filter. If you find a lot of crap in the pan, you may want to do another change ion the near future to be sure everything is flushed put.
If that is all in order, the most likely culprit is the governor. It is behing the round steel cover held in place with a piece of heavy wire. Have a catch pan handy when you pull the cover and watch for the O ring. Clean the governor assembly with solvent and make sure everything moves freely and easily. Wipe out inside the housing and put it back in. If you still have trouble you will have to go to a shop and have the valve body looked at.

How to get the tranmission pan unscrewed to change Gasket 1984 chevy c10

If you are going to change the gasket, you should also change the filter at the same time, especially if it hasn't been done recently. You will need a large drain pan to catch oil in because there is no drain plug. Remove the bolts down both sides of the trans pan, 1/2" I believe, and loosen the back ones 3 or 4 turns. Loosen and slowly remove the bolts on the front of the pan because oil will start to drain from there. Once the oil has drained remove the back bolts and drop the pan. clean it out good and check for "stuff". It's normal to see silver filings in the oil but an excessive amount or actual pieces indicate a problem. Two screws should remove the filter. Replace it and put the new gasket on and set the pan in place. Bolt it on. Torque specs for these bolts are 12-13 ft.-lbs for the Turbo 350 and 400. The 700R4 is torqued to 18 ft.-lbs.

If you have trouble getting at the rear bolts on the trans pan, you may need to unbolt the trans mount and lift the tailshaft a little with a jack to get enough room to get it there. Be gentle doing it.Hope this helps.

Make sure your valve cover is tight. They are known to come loose. Ckeck oil filter tightness and be sure when you change oil the old gasket of filter does not stick to bkock. This will cause an improper seal.
