SOURCE: when the engine is running on my volvo s40

A bit of splash is normal from the slight backpressure created when the pistons go down in any engine, but might also be due to clogged PCV valve. Put the cap back on and pull the dipstick and see if you hear constant hsssssss from there, or if the oil splashing abates from the Fill hole.

As a rule, you are not supposed to open that with the engine running ;-) Very messy on a nice Volvo

My money is on the PCV valve (Positive Crankcase Ventilator ($3.00-20.00)

SOURCE: oil coming out of oil filler cap when driving my

This is a serious problem. with a fairly easy fix.

First ensure that the engine is not out of oil.

You are looking for a Positive crank case ventilation valve, Seek professional help at your parts store, they should be more than happy to point it out the valve for you..

Recommend you replace it and the hose attached.

Unless you have a serious engine malfunction this will clear the oil coming out of the Dip stick.

NOTE:
These engines do tend to produce a lot of blow by but we all agree with your needed course of action to replace the valve.

SOURCE: volvo 960 estate blowing oil from the oil filler

Your PCV / Oil trap is likely clogged. I have had some luck running Mobile 1 Synthetic oil and half a can of seafoam in the engine oil to clean things up but it is likely that you will have to replace the pcv system.

Under the oil filler cap on my Volvo s40,there's only what I describe as a slatted cover can I remove it to fill engine and do I need to replace it

There was no slatted cover on my S40,the slatted cover on yours sounds like a custom filter put there to prevent any foreign object from falling into the engine space, don't remove it . If you do remove it remember to put it back

The emmission light of my volvo s40 2005 stays on

If your s40 is petrol motor? open the bonnet, with the motor running - if it noisier then usual, then try remove the oil filler cap or dipstick. If the noise goes away, then a fairly expensive (but not too bad) part needs replacement. The part is replaceable only, not able to be 'fixed' unfortunately. Taking the oil filler cap off reduces the built up pressure, by the clogged up part, best not to drive around with the oil filler cap off, but if this is the problem best to fix it now rather then later. This is a common maintenance issue, If this is not right after you try it please repost.

How do I change the spark plugs on a 2006 volvo s40?

Remove the plastic cover that is to the oil filler cap , it will a torx bit. Be careful when removing the Spark plug wires the coils are connected to them and they are bolted down. You will need a 8" extension to get the plugs out, I think you will need a 5/8 spark plug socket. Remove one old plug at a time and install new one this way none of the coils/plugs get mixed up.Good Luck Tim

Oil coming out of engine oil filler cap even though i have changed oil filler cap

The engine breather pipe seems to be blocked.
It may also damage the oil seals.
