SOURCE: Clutch Sometimes Slipping in 4th and 5th gears!

Hi Jackiaria

Unfortunately you have a hydraulic clutch, which is self adjusting on your car.

The problem you are experiencing is the excessive wear to your clutch, or oil contamination on the clutch plate.

Both these problems can only be fully diagnosed once the gearbox is removed and the clutch is inspected.
There is also a possibility of excessive wear, or scoring, on the flywheel surface, the longer you drive the vehicle with a slipping clutch, possibly requiring the flywheel to be skimmed.

Shop around for a best price, and a trustworthy garage !

Good Luck !

A FixYa rating would be Nice....Thanks.....John.

Are you sure you installed clutch plate facing right way? They are either stamped or have a tag says "flywheel side". Or might have wrong clutch kit.

Hyundai 2013 I30 gearbox 'SKLITCH' between 5th and 6th gear

It sounds like BS to me but what do I know. I'm only in this business for 40 years. What they did was put heavy oil in the gear box to try to mask the sound. That's why it is difficult to shift (stiff).

Alway ask for the old parts when a replacement is not visible after repairs!

5th Gear Whining Noise Pajero IO. I have been told it will be the Layshaft bearings. can someone please tell me why it would only make the noise in 5th gear and not any other gear. I would think if a...

the 5th gear ( overdrive ) is in the extension section of the box and has a bearing in the housing on the end of the lay shaft
The noise may not be a bearing as the noise described is for mismatch of the gear mesh or chipped tooth on the overdrive cog
so the end section of the lay shaft has a bearing either side of the large gear on the lay shaft as it drives a smaller gear that is connected to the out put shaft by a syncro dog that is moved on gear selection
check the viscosity of gear oil in use as the manufacturer specifies very light mineral oil and that allows tooth contact and wear if carrying loads ( towing ) or speeding
I personally use OEP 80/90 gear oil in manual transmissions , same as what has been in use for many years

Ive replaced clutch and gear lever cables but it still is stiff going down throught the gears also had new gearbox on a j2 lantra

1. replace your gear oil.
2. is this an automatic or manual transmission engine? if manual, adjust your clutch release a little higher than usual to let your clutch engange earlier.

Making noise like gear is rubbing something in 5th gear only. It starts & stops with every gear rotation

Drain the oil out of your manual tranny into a CLEAN bucket. Run your fingers through it. Does it look like you've got splotches of silver paint? If so, your tranny's bearings and/or gears may be wearing out.
