could be ecm thats a common one, 2nd could be vacuum pump, and last there is an actuator in the front diff. you can check voltage at vacuum pump and if the ecm is commanding it on there should be power when you put it in 4X4.

The light flash in my véhicule bord if y utilised my 4x4 in my suzuki vitara 1999 engine 1.6, so an not very good in english tank you

It could be the vacuum pump that activate the 4x4 wheel drive. It is placed behind the front bumper. Check the hoses from the pump for leaks. If the pump is defect it will not make enough vacuum and the light will flash.

do not attempt to replace by yourself unless you have a mech. background.. if you do check at some bone yards and see if you can get the part. and most ratios are standard. unless its been beefed up. or call a few garages and get estimates for the repair..good luck

I just need to change the oil on my 2.5 petrol vitara. It is a year 2000. Is the sump plug the one at the very bottom. I don't want to drain the gear box by mistake. Many thanks, Jon

the front very botom is the diff then the engine then the gearbox then the rear diff.so there are 4 bottom plugs and the second is the engine drain plug.

Front end does not engage in 4-wheel drive

The front diff in this model requires air pressure to engage. There is an electric pump for this purpose and once the pressure rises and remains where it's meant to, the pump shuts off and the dash light indicating 4WD will remain lit. It is sealed. There should be no leaks. If there is air coming out the top, do you mean out of the diff breather pipe? (The diff breather should be connected to a hose that goes up and is clipped next to the radiator.) If it is coming out of the diff breather, you have a punctured (worn out) diff engaging diaphragm which can only be replaced by stripping the diff casing.

I had the same problem on Fraser Island over the Australia Day weekend. The problem was the rubber vacuum hose connected the front diff. There is a metal pipe than comes from the vacuum pump and along the lower engine cross member facing the front of the car. In my case the sand had dislodged the pipe which it turned dislodged the rubber vacuum hose connected from the pipe to the rear top of the front diff housing. This hose engages the front diff / hubs - if they don't engage the 4x4 green light won't come on. After reconnecting the rubber hose everything worked perfectly.

Hope this helps.
Cheers

My 4wd does not work

you have a vacume hose that has a switch on it that engauges the diffy up front.you can find it by following the hoses of the diff case up to the intake of the motor.thats what makes the diffy connect with the transfer case.there is 2 hoses one a vent and the other a vacume.if the hose got poped off its not going to engauge.the vac hose comes in at the bottom of your diffy.try that mate, hope it helps.
