What is you engine idling at if below 700rpm the pickup coil in the distributor will not send a good signal or one at all.

also unplug the 2 wire connector on the distributor and check resistance it should be 180-240 ohms.

Your car has both a crank and cam position sensor. First start with your crankshaft position sensor. It is located by the harmonic balancer on the front of the motor.

1997fordf150 cranks no spark

You are shorting the plug wire to the engine while cranking and no spark? Check for broken lead wires, should be clean, no crimps, do continuity test. Check distributor, coil wire and the leads that connect to it. Should be clean and dry. WD40 with a rag is good. Check the air gap in the distributor with feeler gauge if you have that. DO NOT have key in "on" position. Check if computer is all right and sending signal with jumper wire under the dash. ( you'll need a manual to read the codes that blink.) Check for good engine ground. That's it. Good luck.

98 mercury villager no start , code P 1320

Here is the entire description for the code -

When is the code detected? When the ignition signal in the primary circuit is not sent to Engine Control Module (ECM) during engine cranking or running.

Symptoms- Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

P1320 NISSAN Description The ignition signal from the Engine Control Module (ECM) is sent to and amplified by the power transistor. The power transistor turns on and off the ignition coil primary circuit. This on-off operation induces the proper high voltage in the coil secondary circuit
Possible causes - Faulty power transistor unit built into ignition coil
- Ignition primary circuit is open or shorted (circuit to ignition coils)
- Ignition primary circuit poor electrical connection (circuit to ignition coils)
- Faulty ignition system condenser
- Crankshaft position sensor circuit

help.png Help with this Tech notes The most common cause that will trigger the P1320 code is the ignition coils, one or more ignition coils may have failed. Even tough the coils may be working OK, the resistance for one or more of the coils is greater or smaller that what the Engine Control Module (ECM) is expecting. Measuring the resistance with the coil out of the vehicle may not show any failures, usually the coil fails under heavy conditions (hard acceleration) or certain temperatures.

The P1320 code means that there is problem with the "Ignition Coil" or the wire to the ignition coil. For some models without individual ignition coils the Ignition Coil is inside the distributor and the distributor need to be replaced to fix the problem.

Engine light on with code P0725

P0725 JEEP Description The Engine Control Module (ECM) monitors the engine speed through the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor with the engine running, and send signal to the Transmission Control Module (TCM).
The code is set when the TCM does not get an engine speed signal from the ECM.
Could be a problem with either computer, the link between the two, or the crank sensor.

Truck will be running fine, then all of a sudden it will completely shut off. After we wait a few minutes and pump the clutch and make sure it is all the way to the floor it will start, sometimes. S

You need the engine computer scanned for fault codes, i thank you have an ignition control problem like a module or distributor pickup coil issue. These parts whenthey fail should leave fault cdes so get them read.
Next, the check engine light will pause shortly followed by the second digit of the trouble code. For example if the check engine light blinks once and pauses followed by six blinks the trouble code number would be 16. If no code is present the check engine light will stay one constantly. To restart code gathering turn the ignition key to the "off" position, wait three minutes and turn the ignition key back "on" again without starting the engine. Remove the jumper wire once code gathering is complete. To clear code after the repairs have been made remove the negative battery cable for one minute and reconnect.

Where is the distributor cap on a 1998 kia sportage?

the Kia does not have a distributor, let alone a distributor cap, the engine is equiped with a ignation coil at each cylinder, there is a crankshaft and camshaft sensor that send signels to the onboard computer system then the computer sends the signals to the ignation ignator it then sends the signals to the coils at each cylinder. a much better system then a distributor.

We put a ODB code reader on my 95 jeep grand cherokee. The computer would not read out anything. When the doors open the radio goes off. When we r driving down the hwy the RPM go up from 1500 to 2500.

I suggest re-check to read and note your fault codes acdording with this read codes procedure, with out starting the engine: turn the ignition key ON, OFF, ON, OFF, and finally ON.

The check engine light on the dash will begin to flash. The light will flash the first number of the first digit pause and flash the number of the second digit. Example: five flashes, pause, three flashes = Code 53 PCM failure or Code 54 no cam shaft position sensor signal from distributor etc, etc.

Try this and send us this fault code to send you additional detaild.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I'll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

Thank you for using Fixya, and have a nice day.

Hi Angela:
We cannot understand your "345155" fault code, keep in mind that 1993-1997 codes just have two digits.

No spark from distributor

Replace the cap and center element in the cap. Also, you'll want to check the wiring from the coil to the distributor. Chase it back as: Cap and rotor, wire to the coil, timing unit which ignites the coil from the ECU control point. There could even be an issue with the wiring from the flywheel sensor which sends a signal to ignite the coil.
Being an 89, you should get a check engine light if the sensor on the crank is not receiving a signal. Anything coil-distrubutor-spark plugs should not send a specific code.
Hope this helps

My check engine light came on. I read it as a

Code 12 is no G or NE signal to ecm.
These signals are generated from the pick up coils in the distributor.
If the vehicle runs i would just pull the EFI fuse in the fuse box next to the battery for about a minute and reinstall it to clear the light and see if it returns. You may need a new dist or have a wiring problem.
