2003 Saturn Ion 3 with warning messages coolant & power steering

My 03 Saturn Ion 3 learned a new trick to annoy me tonight. The car would not start and had warning messages displaying "service vehicle"; "coolant"; and "pwr steering". I checked the connections to the new battery I just put in a month ago, and everything was still making a connection. Went back in my car and pulled the keys out..when I tried to stick the key back in, I had to force it before it would go into the ignition. The car then started up fine with no warning lights...when I drove it for a minute or two there was a noticeable burning coming from the area of the ignition switch...could something have shorted out? Should I be concerned...or will my saturn be alright?

I had problems starting all winter on cold days. Also had low coolant warning. Disconnected "white wire" at ignition switch while car was running to disable passkey. It started fine for about 10 days- zero deg. weather. Just displayed passkey fault on dash all the time. My daughter was driving the tach started jumping around. She shut it off. When she came back later the remote would not operate the locks, it would not start. towed it home. fuse 11 (Ign) under the hood was blown. Radio fuse in console was blown. Replace those. Still won't start. Now have power steering fault. Took to GM dealer. they replaced ign. switch. still won't start. They say I need a BCM now. Total bill for switch and BCM $844 and I will have to wait a week to get the BCM from Saturn. It's still sitting at the dealer until I see if I find a cheaper alternative.

You need to replace your ignition switch. If it has already been replaced then you will prob. need a BCM.

O this is an old one, but you need ed to get that thing to the dealer or your mechanic as soon as you possibly could. that smell is the wiring insulation melting. Ive had to replace the wiring at and back into the dash to the fuse block from a short to ground. It is a mess, but can be repaired.

I have a 2003 Saturn ion-3. Last year the power steering went out and the shop had me replace the steering rack for $1100. Recently it has gone out again, what else might be the problem?

My power steering went out on a 2007 ion. I took it to a GM dealership with Goodwrench service repair. There was a recall & they fixed it FREE. I haven't had a problem since. That was oct 2011.

2004 saturn ion does not start on a regular basis. After trying to start it and you try it again after awile..it starts. The battery is fine and all electrical works.

We were having problems with my son's 2004 Saturn Ion. The first thing that started flashing was the power steering warning, so fixed that by replacing the fuses. It kept flashing and then the coolant light came on and it wouldn't start. The battery was fine and well charged. We finally asked a friend who manages a vehicle service center for assistance. The Ion has a standard transmission and that was the problem. After only 15 minutes, they found the clutch switch was just a little loose. So they tightened it and the car popped right off and all the flashing warning lights disappeared. An easy fix but the car sat in our garage for 6 weeks as we couldn't find the solution!

Coolant message,n reduced engine power light is on, wont start

Your battery is too weak to turn the starter. The starter takes much more power than the lights or anything else.
