Question about 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse
I want to remove the belt from a/c compressor pulley. Can it be done and how much shorter of a belt do I need?

Its just one bolt in the center. there is usually i panel in the wheel well that you can take off to get to it real easy. I always use a repair manual from autozone. it tells you what to do step by step.

If the threads are damaged yes. Also check the thread where the bolt goes in. Make sure there is no other damage collateral caused when tensioner came of. Use blue loctite to insure failure does not repeat

The compressor cannot be by-passed, but you can disconnect the compressor clutch by disconnecting the two wire connector at the compressor; then the compressor pulley is just an idler.
