SOURCE: I have a 1989 F150

Try jumping the starter solenoid (between small terminal and the positive side) to see if it starts, if so replace selenoid; if not check to see if small wire is hot(someone will havfto hold the key in start position for you); not hot got broken or blown fuse some where.

How to remove an actuator on 2001 ford f150 xlt


You need to google 2001 f150 blend door actuator replacement. It is slightly right of center above the plastic duct work for the floor area. All lower dashboard plastic is removed to get at it.
Then the ducting is removed.

The actuator rod has a spring and block the returns the actuator to its normal position. Sounds like one of the three parts are broke. If this is a tilt steering column there is a two piece actuator rod. I am in the process of replacing the upper actuator rod, the pin that connects it to the lower actuator broke off. Never had any ignition problems, one day it just won't turn off due to broken actuator rod. Hope this helps you.

How do you go about replacing the ignition switch on a 1988 Ford F150? It is an automatic, 5.0 L motor, electric fuel injection.


Removal & Installation CAUTION Read the air bag service precautions in Section 6 prior to doing work involving an air bag equipped steering column component. Always wear safety glasses when servicing an air bag vehicle and handling the air bag to avoid possible injury.

  1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.
  2. Remove the steering column shroud and lower the steering column.
  3. Disconnect the switch wiring at the multiple plug.
  4. Remove the two nuts that retain the switch to the steering column.
  5. Lift the switch vertically upward to disengage the actuator rod from the switch and remove the switch.
  6. When installing the ignition switch, both the locking mechanism at the top of the column and the switch itself must be in the LOCK position for correct adjustment. To hold the mechanical parts of the column in the LOCK position, move the shift lever into PARK (with automatic transmissions) or REVERSE (with manual transmissions), turn the key to the LOCK position, and remove the key. New replacement switches, when received, are already pinned in the LOCK position by a metal shipping pin inserted in a locking hole on the side of the switch.
  7. Engage the actuator rod in the switch.
  8. Position the switch on the column and install the retaining nuts, but do not tighten them.
  9. Move the switch up and down along the column to locate the mid-position of rod lash, and then tighten the retaining nuts.
  10. Remove the locking pin, connect the battery cable, and check for proper start in PARK or NEUTRAL.-Also check to make certain that the start circuit cannot be actuated in the DRIVE and REVERSE position.
  11. Raise the steering column into position at instrument panel. Install steering column shroud.

88 F150 Ignition is off and keys in my pocket but fuel pumps running non stop and eec relay powered just like ignition is on? brand new relays and connectors


You probably have a worn out key and tumbler assembly. Crabk your truck and see if you can remove the key while it is running. Try putting the key back in and jiggle it to see if the powered up units go off. I worked for Ford for many years and that year truck also had a problem with the ignition switch at the bootom of the steering column. That is where the rod from your ignition switch (key) goes in and turns all the accesories on. It is possible that it is sticking in the power on position. This could also be from a broke actuator rod.

there is a pin in the rod that normally breaks, if you unbolt the ignition switch from the bottom of the column you will be able manually move the switch,

It may be the 'actuator'. It is a rod that connects the lock cylinder to the ignition switch on the tilt wheel units. It is made of aluminum and often breaks as things become worn.

Liftgate Latch Actuator Removal and Installation
  1. Remove the liftgate latch remote control. For additional information, refer to Liftgate Latch Remote Control in this section.

  1. Remove and discard the liftgate latch bolts.
  1. Remove the liftgate latch.
  1. NOTE: Make sure the liftgate latch release rod is not preloading the latch. It should be clipped in a relaxed state with no slack.
    NOTE: Position the liftgate latch release rod by pushing outboard to remove the slack.
