Check your catalytic converter. It could be broken up, clogging the exhaust. A quick check, get a rubber hammer and hit the converter and lessen for any rattles.

SOURCE: ROUGH IDLE

You have rust particles in the float bowl. The easiest thing to do is remove the side cover of the carb (the thing that unbolts, with a sight-glass on it) and spray carb cleaner into the float bowl until it is clean.

SOURCE: Rattle/Vibration from front of vehicle when idling at stop

Hi and welcome to FixYa. Please try this:
GO out to the car, and lift up on the hood. Does it raise a bit and rattle? If so;
Open the hood, and look at the perimeter of the front radiator support. You will see 2 small rubber thingys, that look like that they are screwed onto the metal that is holding the radiator. Unscrew them a little, and close the hood. Pull up on the hood and see if the rattle goes away. If not, repeat unscrewing the rubber things until the lift disappears.

A FixYa rating (4 blue diamonds) would be greatly appreciated for my assistance.

Check the timing and compression of the engine. It sounds like you either have a blown head gasket or a the timing jumped.

Clogged fuel filter or bad fuel pump. Check fuel pressure before and after filter. Could also be a mass air flow sensor going bad or a air leak in the intake manifold.

Hello, I have a 2000 Toyota Echo & just wanted to know what I need to do to tune it up. thanks

A 2001 echo a tune up , you will need sparkplugs , air filter , pcv valve and i would put some injector cleaner in the tank to help clean the fuel system, this cars fuel filter is inside the gas tank and is good for the life of the fuel pump and doesnt need replacing at this time,. take note that alot of the newwer toyotas use iridium sparkplugs, you will see a notice under the hood on a small sticker its sometimes located on valve cover or on radiator post warning you to use iridium plugs. i hope this helps, good day.

Toyota Echo Automatic 2000 model. Stalls at low revs and shudders when taking off slowly. Replaced spark plugs fuel filter and air filter didnt seem to make any difference. Any ideas?

Sounds like a fuel problem. Check fuel pump and fuel rail. Do a fuel line pressure test. Try cleaning inside of throttle body really good and also the TPS at that location. There's many things that can make a car run bad.

My echo hesitates on take off and it has a tough time getting up hills,on the highway it seems to wanna go but wont get up to 75-80

Try changing the fuel filter. Check the air filter. Check the timing. Check or change plugs and wires. Make sure there are no loose or broken vacuum lines under the hood. With the engine running, wiggle them all around and listen for a hissing sound.

2000 echo air/heat fan won't turn on and blow air.

Check all fuses under dash and under hood with a 12volts auto test light. Check the fan switch and check for power to the fan blower motor. Please ask any other concerns.

Pull the spark plug wires out one by one and check for oil on wire. Sometimes the valve cover spark plug hole gaskets leak oil into the spark plug hole and causes a misfire. If oil found clean with brake or carb cleaner and blow out with compressed air. also when car runs bad listen under hood for snapping noise this would be spark escaping to ground somewere. In a dark garage you might be able to see the spark.

It could be one of 2 things - Bad Coil. Cars this new have coil on plug coils (6) and when one goes bad sometimes it will run well then start to run poorly. Buy one and replace the others one by one to identify the bad one. If this doesn't work, you have either a dirty or bad MAF sensor. This is the sensor just past the intake air filter. Buy some MAF sensor cleaner at the auto store and spray this on the sensor to clean. Do not touch the sensor with your finger as this will ruin the sensor. Good luck!!
