If it is a warn hub and you have the six (or so )retaining bolts off the face of it ;there is a external ring around the shaft that is holding it on you use a pick to get it out....

I have a 1987 dodge ramcharger, and ther is play in the front axle and the passenger side hub, all bearing and in the hub have been replaced, will the play in the hub and the axle hurt anything to kee

the side play ( gear clearance) in the diff unit will not affect anything as they only work on changing direction ( turning corners) or in a bog. Unless you have planetary gears in the hubs then what you are feeling will be the axle spline clearance in the side gears in the diff.

My 4x4 on my dodge rancharger does not work

make sure your hubs are locked. the auto-hubs should be checked too for extreme wear.(if equipped) next look at the diff are all the gears there and not f'd up.put trans case in N and rotate front shaft, full turn with no resistance with hubs locked means diff problems. if shaft rotates in gear(any but N) and wheels off the ground, you have a Tcase problem(chain, shift linkage). so theres some things to think about.

How to use fourwheel drive

On an 86 you probably still had the hub locks on the outside. You have to get down off the truck and manually turn the hubs to the lock position. The hubs are located in the middle of the wheel. Then Put the 4 wheel drive gear shift to 4 hi or 4 low. At the low level it runs very slowly and very low geared. At 4 hi, it runs normal but the 4 wheel drive engages. When you are not using the 4 wheel drive it is good that you get off the truck and turn the hubs counter clockwise to the off position.

I have an '86 ramcharger. It has rust on body and passanger door has a large dent in it. The engine take about 5 to 10 times of turning the key and giving it gas (the proccess takes about 20 minutes)...

Sounds like fuel problem. May be with the choke, may be with the carb. Check timing and fuel filter as well. Is air filter dirty? Start small and check basics, then work your way in. I have a 86 Ramcharger 360ci that looks like **** as well, but motor has 100,000+ miles without any major work done. I had an idle and driveability problem that was solved by a tune-up and carb rebuild.

Check for power with 12VDC test light at switch down at the brake pedal. Should have power on one terminal without pressing pedal, then press pedal and see if power going through switch to other terminal. If going in but not coming out, replace switch. Can use jumper wire between the 2 connectors to confirm brake lights come on.
