Sounds like the crank pulley is damaged. You will have to replace it. There's a bolt in the center that has to be removed and then you will have to get a puller tool to "pull" it off the crankshaft.

First, if you have sprayed WD-40 on your belt, your belt has been wrecked and needs to be replaced again. WD-40 will only soak into the belt and CAUSE it to slip and make noise.

Then you need to check the alignment of all the belt pullies. The tensioner pullies on many Fords can wear and sit a little out of alignment and cause the belt to rub sideways against the other pullies. Replacing the belt tensioner usually fixes it.

Can be a sign of a mis-aligned pulley. If a pulley is not perfectly flush with other pulleys, or skewed ( cocked a bit) it will tear up your belts. This is usually caused by worn out bolt holes retaining the component or its bracket, or a worn out component causing the pulley to wobble. With the belt off, Visually check pully alignment and skew with a straight edge. Using your hands, try to make eack pulley wobble by pulling back and forth on it to feel for play in the pulley bearing. No play is acceptable for and component pulley other than very slight play in tensioner pully. Ive seen A/C compressor and alternator pulley do that type of belt damage. Mike

That Bottom Pulley is for the Timing Belt and the Crankshaft. There could be a lot more Problems than what he can see. Hopefully the Pulley is just Bent and he will not have to tear into the Motor for repair. Please Rate My Response! Thanks!

Altonator belt help for escort 1998 gti zetec

I tried to attach a photo of the diagram but, would not let me. Remember the smooth side or back of the belt runs on the smooth pulleys. The grooved rides on the grooved pulleys. Starting at the altermator it goes around the topof the alternator then below the tensioner then around theback side and bottom of the crank pulley and the bottom of the a/c compressor. There is a small smooth idler pulley just above the a/c that the back side of the belt rides on then it goes to the outside of the p/s pully then back up to the alternator. Hope this helps. I will try to attach the photos again.

Serpentine belt keeps slipping off when it rains.

I have had the same trouble with my 2002 zx2. I have had to reinstall or replace the serpentine belt 4 or 5 times in less than a year. I have replaced the idler bearing and then the water pump went out which took out the belt as well. The belt still came off after replacing those items when I hit another puddle of water. I found that proper installation of the plastic engine splash guards which bolt to the bottom around the motor play an important roll in keeping out road water. Since the pulleys are accessible with the right front tire removed, I focused on securing the plastics tightly around the wheelwell framework. This has helped extremely in keeping water away from the pulleys. I haven't had any more troubles in the last 7 or 8 months. I'm still leary when driving in the rain as the routing of the serpentine belt on this car is the worst I've ever encountered.
Bottom line, check/replace idler bearing, tensioner if needed and make sure all plastic splash guards are there and properly screwed to the frame and each other.
Hope this helps.
