Question about 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee

ABS light on

I just had my manifold replaced on my 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee. When I got it back the ABS light was on. I don't remember if this is supposed to be on or not. If it is not supposed to be on did the mechanic do something that I need to take it back to them to fix?

Thanks for the help. I need to take it back just to see if they knocked something loose. When you start the car the abs light doesn't come on until you put it in drive and and hit about 10mph. I am glad to hear about the "standard" braking.

Probably fixed by now, but it sounds like someone forgot to plug something back in. Check all harnesses on the firewall for anything hanging. It isn't intentional, but sometimes stuff like this happens. The problem I have with this is that the shop did not see this before releasing vehicle back to you, or tell you about the light being on so that they could avoid liability if they had nothing to do with abs problem. Fortuantely, abs reverts back to "standard" braking system when in fail mode so there is little chance of any real danger to you.

The ABS light is for Automatic Braking System and unless you had the brakes done I wouldn't blame your mechanic.

Did you have the brakes done?

Thundergod hit the nail on the head with the Jan 28th, 2009 post!
I had a similar problem, took my car back to my mechanic and they fixed it for $45!
They had accidentally (I hope) knocked a wire loose when doing a major repair but warning lights don't come on right away they take a few miles of travel to run through the software in our cars computers before showing up on the dash!
This is why I change mechanics every so often!
Like food, I get sick and tired of tasting the same thing over and over again.
I put 25,000 miles on a year, do a lot of maintenance and repair, and most importantly ...change mechanics every once in a while!

Hope this is helpful.

Good Luck!

Abs light is on and abs dont work ,plus reverse lights dont come on for my 1993 grand cherokee

if your ABS does'nt work meaning theres a problem, you need a Scanner to identify what causes maybe your sensors are not working (4X4 = 4 sensors , 2X4 = 2 front sensors) or damages/dirty , or you ABS pump are not working properly, regarding your reverse light, check the fuse, relay, bulb and even your wiring connection..regards

Use a deep well socket and extension on your ratchet. I don't remember the size of socket, but you can size it up with the replacement part. Install the new part by hand first and snug it down with the ratchet. Be careful not to crank it down too tight. Hope this helps.

My 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.0 hestates

There were several driveability improvements made and Chrysler issued a TSB to address the issues. There is a software upgrade that will take care of the problem. So I would let Chrysler check it for codes and perform the upgrade.

Good luck, and remember rated this help.
