SOURCE: how to open the dash and install a new cd player

Some call for a small long skinny screwdrivers in all four holes at same time to release factory player. Others, you can take a butter knife and work all the way around factory stereo to flatten out the metal holding tabs that hold it in place. The trip will pry off with flathead screwdriver

How to install a aftermarket CD player in a 1997 Audi a4

hi, your best bet is to go to a stereo sales place like best buy and get an install kit specifically for your car, that way there is no cutting wires, everything will just plug right in and they sell kits that will allow you to install aftermarket units directly into the dash without cutting anything. Very professional.

Plastic box of wires to big for my new cd player after taking my old cassette player out

You wll need a stereo installation adapter kit. This will change the dash opening to the size you need, oftentimes by replacing an entire dash panel for a factory look.

Here is a link to the dash kit for your car at Best Buy. These will come with detailed instructions. Let me know if this helps :)

Pontiac 2005 CD player

cd player is probably shot at that point. if its a newer grand am, like 02 on up - this is how to take the dash apart and replace cd player -

theres a trim piece around the cd player and climate control knobs. check all around this trim piece for screws. if none, its held in by pressure clips. just pull firmly but gently and evenly and it will pop off without breaking. there are 3 bolts holding the cd player in place. 9/32 is the size for a socket. after that you pull the cd player out. unplug the harness and the antenna.

this is very important -
an old standard gm wire harness to aftermarket radio WILL NOT work on this vehicle. you need a special gm harness that costs around $100. replaces door chime and prevents failure of a LOT of other options. its a long story, but trust me you need it. also an antenna adapter to go from gm's 'mini' size antenna to a standard. add a mount kit for the radio and you're lookin at $150 in parts before u even buy a radio.

dash reassembly is obviously just the reverse order of what was listed above.

hope this helps. is my email if it doesnt help. i used to be an autotech. if i cant answer ur questions chances are i know someone that can!
