Sounds like it too yours truely here my old jag makes a noise like that but its still working so who knows for how long and my ford escort tailgate BOOT in the queens english. stopped working years ago but their is nothing inside the car to steal ? thats if i bother to lock it in the first place anyway
put the key in the ignition and tap the key farther into the cylinder and turn. should work. seems like a chrysler problem! a handy tow truck driver showed me this solution last night. you can have the cylinder replaced if this keeps happening or just keep a handy-dandy whacking object in your center console for just such an occassion!
Hello and welcome the problem is very simple to resolve first make sure you have battery power turn off vehicle open rear gate unlock doors go to rear gate and look at lock unlock again and push the Grey plastic lock trigger mechanism forward towards front glass close gate unlock again make sure lock is still in the position you just set it to and close glass it will the lock. Normally what happens in this situation was power was removed from your jeep and the rear gate was opened with no power running to electric lock so it stays in a set position you cannot lock the glass because there was no power in the electric lock I will lock once you reset it Hope this help. There is a cutout on the inner tailgate cover that can be removed with a screwdriver. This will give you access to the latch assembly. There is a small lever mounted on the latch assembly. When you move it toward the driver side it will release the tailgate.
This works on my 03 Liberty but not on my 05 Liberty. They both use the same type of latch. Does anyone know where to get a latch other than a Jeep dealer? Jeep wants $235.00 for the latch.
The auto lock burned out you need to go to dealer and get ripped off for $300 to have them fix it. Make sure you tell them the exact problem since it took 3 mechanics two days to figure mine out after i told them what was wrong the first time. Not too swift there.
