SOURCE: S40 Warning Lights

Faults can happen from day one, on. That is why there is a warning system.
If the warning light is on, you must access the computer system to access which fault code is present. Many different companies manufacture tools to do this from an inexpensive generic one from Launch Tech of China to the original factory unit made for Volvo by Balco. Depending on the fault code, the most common one that I see is caused by the fuel cap either installed incorrectly or not fully tightenned. Check your fuel cap and if it is not installed correctly or not fully tightenned, please re-install. If the fuel cap was the problem, the warning light will go off by itself in a few days.

SOURCE: Radio code for volvo s40

If the display says "Off" the radio is locked from incorrect code input.

You need to leave the key in the accessory position with the radio on (display reads 'Off') for about two hours.
After that it should ask for he code again. You have three tries before it locks again.
Some radios are different, but typically you use the knob to adjust the numbers, push the knob in to move to the next number

SOURCE: The AC fan in my car (volvo s40-99) does not work

If you are talking about the blower motor fan, inside the car, look for a blown fuse,or a bad fan relay. The blower motor relay could be mounted near the blower motor,or in the relay box, look for the lables to guide you to it.If the relay, and the fan are fine, then replace the blower motor.

Check for DPF in Volvo C30, S40, V50, C70 (diesel particulate filter, FAP, 2.0D...

Check if your Volvo C30/S40/V50/C70 has DPF (diesel particulate filter) / FAP (filtre ? particules) installed. Volvo is using this filter in cars with diesel engines like 1.6D, 2.0D, D2, D3, D4, D5 to reduce emission and meet Euro emission standards.
There are three ways to check your Volvo for DPF: by VIN number, with hidden menu and by checking ADM module under the hood.

    2005 Volvo s40 2.4i stalls when iddling

When an issue such as this occurs, you have a faulty TPS-throttle position sensor, and it needs to be replaced. The replacement is fairly simply, and you may be able to get the part at an auto parts store. The TPS is located on the throttle body.

Need insructions on how to replace 02 sensors on a 2004 Volvo S40.

1st lets look at the explanatioon of this code, it is not always the sensor at fault, the sensor can just be a symptom of another problem.

Causes A code P0133 may mean that one or more of the following has happened:
    • The oxygen sensor is faulty
    • The wiring to the sensor is broken / frayed
    • There is an exhaust leak
Possible Solutions The simplest thing to do is to reset the code and see if it comes back.
If the code comes back, the problem is more than likely the front Bank 1 oxygen sensor. You will likely wind up replacing it but you should also consider these possible solutions:
    • Check and fix any exhaust leaks
    • Check for wiring problems (shorted, frayed wires)
    • Check the frequency and amplitude of the oxygen sensor (advanced)
    • Check for a deteriorating / contaminated oxygen sensor, replace if necessary
    • Check for inlet air leaks
    • Check the MAF sensor for proper operation

I have a volvo 2001 s40, when I give it gas it hesitates and the check eng light comes on. I got it checked and my 02 sensor needs changed. I want to know what one cause I have two

Normally its the 02 sensor nearest the manifold ( the first one). However I would be carefull before you throw to much money at this fault as these engines are also fitted in the Mitsibushi and are prone to decoke issues and faulty throtle body I have had experience with both types and after spending lots of money on both occasions ended up selling cars at auction as neither main dealer could solve. You can check the o2 sensor by using a multi metre where by the reading should fluctuate if the 02 sensor is working correctly. You can also clean the throttle body intake and see if this helps. Good luck.
