Check your battery terminals,,make sure they are tight, then if you need to go further, have the starter motor checked out.
Try a jump start anyway,,

97 chevy lumina won't turn over but lights work. Makes a click sound and thats it.

You need a new battery-
It takes a great deal more power to crank a motor than it does to light up the lights. This is why your lights still come on even though the battery does not have enough power crank the engine over. If you install a new battery keep an eye on it...if it dies quickly then you have a bad alternator.

My '97 ford taurus isnt kicking over while tryn to start it up

Anything done to car, or happened recently that might affect this?
If starter fluid doesn't work, and starter is cranking normally (too fast may point to a timing belt broke, too slow may mean battery run down and not producing sufficient spark), there's still a problem in your ignition. Pull a sparkplug or two. After cranking a little they should be wet with gas. Check for compression while a plug is out: hold your finger over plug hole when cranking. You should feel pressure buildup and release over and over as long as cranking.
A properly timed engine needs spark, fuel, and compression to start. Keep reviewing your procedure. Something is not right.
You may want to have the computer scanned for possible trouble codes. Check plug wires for proper routing. Were plugs gapped right?

(04 ford explorer xlt) left lights on for about 1-2 hours without noticing. car wouldn't start of course. tried jump starting it. it only cranked over 3 times. then after that it just wouldn't do anything...

HAVE YOU CHECKED ALL THE MAIN JUMBO FUSES ON THE ENGINE CONPARTMETN YET??? SEEMS YOU CAUSED A GOOD SHORT. TEST ALL THEM SPECIALLY THE IGN AND THE ECU ONES. THOSE FUSES DO BURN DUE TO INPROPER JUMPSTARTS HOPE THIS HELPS.

I have a 97 toyota tercel, and it shakes pretty bad when i stop at a red light, and just recently it has been slow to start. but when i push the accelerator it starts fine, however, today that did not...

could be jus the battery or starter going bad from excessive cranking when it fells to start. My solution to the starting is clean the thorttle plate sometime varnish gets around the thorttle plate and it doesnt give it the right amount of air to start this should solve ur problem.
