SOURCE: alternator in a 99 olds' intrigue

you have to pull the radiator to get the alternator out. had to do this couple months ago. then after you get it unbolted you need to slide it past exhaust and out toward the drivers side of car. pulling radiator was rediculous, but the only way!!!! hope that helps

I have a 2000 olds intrigue i just got in my car and every time i crank it loses power then the dials go crazy and for a minute or two then the power comes back on.
usually dials going crazy indicates low battery and/or failing alternator. Make sure they are 100 working before making a lot of other fixes.

Need to push engine back to get alternator out of a 2000 intrigue
you have to remove battery and tray,you have to remove cooling fans assembly to remove alternator for the 3.5 engine.

How do you get the pully cover off the water pump for 2000 olds intrigue. removed the 4 bolts and it does not come off.
Hello: Something doesn't sound correct. Is the water pump driven by the belt that drives the alternator, a/c compressor and power steering pump? If so the you may have to tap on it with a hammer to break it loose from the engine. Make sure you clean all the old gasket off before installing the replacement.

Need help on nputing alt on intrigue

  • 1.Disconnect the battery by turning the positive terminal bolt in a counterclockwise direction with a 10mm socket wrench. Disconnect the terminal nut on the alternator by turning it counterclockwise with an open-ended wrench. Store the terminals away from the battery.

  • 2

    Disconnect the Intrigue's serpentine fan belt by pressing on the tension pulley arm firmly then working the belt out from underneath the idle pulley. Release the tension pulley arm so the belt will have enough slack to be removed from the alternator pulley wheel.

  • 3

    Remove the mount bolts by turning the nuts counterclockwise, holding the bolt head with a socket wrench. Slide the bolts out of the mount arms. Replace the alternator with a new unit by positioning it into the mount arms and sliding the bolts through the mount holes. Tighten all nuts securely.

  • 4

    Replace the drive belt by wrapping the belt around the alternator pulley wheel then pressing on the tension arm to slide the belt back underneath the idle pulley. Release the arm and the belt will tighten to an automatic adjustment.

  • 5

    Reconnect the alternator's wiring harness connection by placing the terminal over the connection bolt and securing the nut clockwise with a small wrench. Reconnect the battery by turning the terminal bolt clockwise with a 10 mm socket.

    The lights and heater motor go bright and dim like a short in the system and the front blinkers bulbs burn out all the time,they last about a week and burn out.Could it be a bad ground and if it is where...
    I've owned a 2000 intrigue for a year and i've already replaced one blinker socket because the bulb melted into it and the parts supplier said he stocks alot of those because it's a common problem. And the lights that go dim I have the same problem and looked it up it is the alternator and gm knows about it they appearently sell a "no flicker" alternator although I haven't replaced mine yet. I hope this helps - someone said "Intrigue is a perfect name for this car it has so many quirks it's "Intriguing"
