How do I bypass immobiliser on a 02 model Ducati monster 659? Do I need to replace the entire ignition system including the c.d.i , key, barrel, immobiliser etc.?
It's an uninsured stolen recovery and although I have the code I don't have the keys and although the keys were stolen along with the bike, the assholes still busted off the ignition barrel and now it won't fire. I can get it to turn over but when I checked for spark by removing the spark plug lead and every time it kicks over I manage to get only one spark every time and then nothing. I know I can go to the dealership but its going to cost me a fortune and I'm happy to just bypass the entire system for now and I also know that people say its impossible but obviously it can be done somehow . After all its just a machine and a computer and we're humans!

the original key is coded to your car.
So changing the barrel to have a new key wont help and ill tell you why.
Inside the original key is a transponder chip that is programmed to the cars immobiliser unit.
Attached to the ignition barrel is whats called a reader coil and its job is to read the keys chip when inserted in the barrel to deactivate the immobiliser so that the car will start.
What you need to do is contact a good knowlegable locksmith to provide a new key and code it to your car
replace the barrel in the ignition lock and you will get 2 keys already cut to the new barrel. If there is an immobiliser included in the system you will have to get the new keys programmed to the CPU in the ECM of the car
I hope that you still have the old key.
all you have to do is that: open up the old key/remote and look inside it for a small black rectangle piece, this is the immobilizer chip.
remove it carefully don't brake it, and place it inside the new key/remote, put a little glue on it
Hi, Sounds like the immobiliser isn't de-activating. The system will prime when the ignition is turned on and the car will start but then the immobiliser will cut the fuel after 2-3 seconds. Are there any warning lights or led lights staying on. If you have a spare key and haven't tried it then start there first. If you do and neither key works then it could be a number of things including the pick up ring around the ignition barrel but you would need to get the car checked out proffesionally before you start replacing parts. Good luck, Jon.
Your ford dealer visit may not be as expensive as you think, you need 2 pats keys and have them perform an ignition key code erase then they should be able to program your 2 new keys, The Ford Dealer I work at only charges 0.5hrs or approx $50.00 dollars Canadian.
Either the key is worn, the lock barrel is worn or the steering lock is engaged.
The last one can be solved by pulling down or pushing up one side of the steering wheel as you try to turn the key; this tales the load off the steering lock allowing it to disengage.
The only other fix is to try any spare keys which you have for the car. If they work then your main key needs to be replaced. If not then you need to have the ignition key barrel and possibly the entire steering lock assembly professionally replaced. As your car is an older model a garage may be able to permanently disable your steering lock as a cheaper fix if that's where the issue lies, but you'll then find that your insurance company will want to increase your premiums or even refuse cover. If your keys are chipped immobiliser keys then they may all need to be reprogrammed to the car as part of the repair job.
