Check engine light on code p320

The check engine light is on and now the RPm gauge is not working either. The oil change place gave me a code of p320. Is this a problem I can fix myself?

Sounds like an ignition component failure check for proper resistance through primary and secondary ignition coil windings, refer to service repair manual for exact specs, also the ignitor magnetic pick up may be not up to snuff, the only other ignition component to replace or check is the ignition module and/or plug wires themselves, sometimes when extreme demand is put on the ignition system the plug wires must be high quality and completely isolated from one another. Spark plug wires when routing cannot come in contact with one another in the slightest proximity.

Sounds to me like the Throttle Position Sensor. Thats usually what makes the throttle "rev" But that is not going to make the oil pressure drop. Pull the codes from your car and look them up online. sometimes there is an extra fuse u can add to your panel and turn the key on and it will flash your codes via the check engine light. i.e. if the light flashes 2 times then small pause then 1 time and long pause that is code 21. if there isnt a extra fuse you can usually jump it with a paperclip and pull the codes. not really sure how to do that with yours. but im positive Google knows ;)

Hi I have a 2002 pontiac sunfire 2.2 vin 4 and my oil light comes on at idle and goes off when i accelerate I have changed oil oil filter and pump..can it be the crank bearings going bad?

Hello Jason, I suggest you install an auxiliary oil pressure gauge to see what you have for oil pressure. Your problem might be as simple as a bad oil sending unit.

P320

What engine?

P0320 and P1391 are crank sensor codes. The symptoms you have certainly point towards one possibly going bad.

if this is a 4.0 straight six you can find the crank sensor on the drivers side of the transmission where it blots up to the engine on the top side. If you look in between the intake and the firewall you should be able to locate the harness and follow it to the sensor. The sensors are relatively inexpensive and would be an excellent start.

Possible that the OIL filter is clogged and is reducing the pressure due to this when the engine is idling or in low RPM. So before you run the engine further and make it more damaging , it is worth to have the engine oil / oil filter changed. If there is still no result, check the oil pressure switch. If not the oil pump can be faulty. This needs a technical help and should be consulted.

OIL LIGHT GOES OUT AT 1000RPM OTHER WISE ITS ON 1 CHANGED OIL TWICE 2 RPL OIL SENDING UNIT 3 PERFORMED MOTOR FLUSH

I think you should have an accurate mechanical oil pressure test gauge installed in place of the oil sending unit and check to see what the actual oil pressure is. If it's 15 psi or so at an idle and about 35 psi or higher at 2500 rpm then your pressure is good and means you have some sort of issue between the sending unit and gauge. If the pressure is low, say below 10 or 5 psi at an idle with a warm engine and doesn't improve much at higher speeds then you actually do have low oil pressure, most likely due to worn bearings inside the engine. An accurate test gauge should tell the tale and help you figure out what is wrong. Hope this helps out a bit!

Hello, I have the same issue like bjmadm1234 posted. The solution suggested unfortunately does not work for my car (Dodge Grand Caravan 1997). We already exchanged the Oil pressure switch, after driving a...

I would suspect that you have a weak or failing oil pump, however before condemning the pump I would do a physical oil pressure check with a gauge. Oil pumps are not easy to replace so lets make sure it is the problem before replacing it. For reference yours can be done with the motor in the vehicle.

Physical Pressure Test:

This may require you to tuck a oil pressure gauge under the driver side wiper arm and go for a short drive to make the situation replicate. Depending on how you hook up the gauge (in place of oil pressure switch) the light will be on full time during the testing and this is ok. If you can replicate this symptom that you are reporting in the drive way in gear it is desirable as you can better read the gauge.

The oil pressure should be:

3.0L = Oil pressure should be 6 PSI at idle and 35-75 psi at 3,000 rpm with engine at normal operating temperature.

3.3L = Oil pressure should be 5 psi at idle and 30-80 psi at 3,000 rpm with engine at normal operating temperature.

You see that there is a large "in spec" region for the 3,000 rpm range as listed. I would look for the pressure to be at the higher end of the scale and the idle pressure to be right in spec. If any of these pressures are low I would suggest changing the oil pump.

If your motor is one that I have not listed here please comment back and I will provide the appropriate spec per the motor in your van.

Your Dodge sounds as if it actually has several separate problems going on,first, with the check engine light, have it scanned for diagnostic trouble codes, and have the technician write down the code number and definition (description). This could lead down a diagnostic path that might explain some of the things going on with the truck. The oil gauge, take it back to the oil change place, and INSIST that you think they installed a defective oil filter.I had a defective oil filter cause my oil gauge to go whacky too.Hopefully the codes will lead to some clear problem, when you get the code numbers and definitions, come on back and we'll try and work through them with you.Another option is buying an OBD2 code reader. They can be bought for around $60,and you won't have to go a mechanic or AutoZone to get codes out of your vehicles.Good luck. Thanks for using Fixya.com
