Question about Cars & Trucks

1 Answer

03 eclipse spyder auto v6 .Ive cussed out my wife, broke my favorite flashlight and have wasted 3 days and a hundred bucks. So if anyone can help please do. It will not start. No crank no start. Put the key in turn to the start position and nothing. The only sound I hear is a faint clicking noise inside the dash fuse box. Here is the events that took place before this happened. how was driving the car turn the key off the car from the inside shut the door got out my wife is still inside she tried to get out of the car and the alarm went off I didn't know how to turn the alarm off because it is the factory alarm not the aftermarket so I just pulled the battery cable off. the next day I tried to start the car and that was the problem there is no drinking just nothing when I turn the key to the start position.I checked the fuses checked the battery cables even bought a new battery and still nothing same when I go to start it. I am at a loss here. Is there a fuse I missed or is it the starter kill failsafe feature with the aftermarket alarm. (Avital 2200). I just dont want to invest anymore money if this is a quick easy fix. One of my buddies said i might have to do the reset code ie turn the key 3 times, press the brake 5 times and so on. Any ideas? Thanks. James

Put the battery cables back on shut the doors and lock the drivers door with the key then unlock it with the key. This will shut the alarm off it it goes off and may get the car out of the lockdown mode it seems that it is currently in. If that does not work you may try and call your local Mitsubishi dealer and ask one of the guys in the service or parts dept if the car has a lock down mode and what procedure has to be done to unlock it, mor than likley the will tell you and you wont have to spend a dime. This is all regarding the factory alarm however.

Thanks Chris, I tried that and no luck. The key will disarm the alar but still wont start. Im wondering if a wire came loose under the fuse box or something. This is so strange. Etacs system have anything to do with this?

Look in the fuse box under the steering colum there will be a fuse labled anti-theft, pull that fuse and see if anything changes. Both the stcok and aftemarket alarms have a starter kill circuit. If this does not work you may need to provide more info as to what is working with the key on, What happen when you try to start it and what type of clicking noises, one click or several intermittent sounding clicks, also what lights are on and the dash.

Chris you are a life saver. I was inspecting the fuse box and moved around a relay when I was troubleshooting. Accidentally put one of the relays in a bad spot. Derrrr. Anywho the problem is fixed. Starts up just fine. I hope no one else has to go through this like I had to.

SOURCE: help

i have a 1996 grand caravan, and i have the problem of alarm going off too. I also do not have a keychain to turn it off. All you have to do is unlock the driver door or passenger door with a regular key, and that stops the alarm.

SOURCE: 1994 Toyota Tercel Starter Problems

sounds to me that you have an igniton problem not a starter problem and or if you have or had an alarm system could be cause if u do give me feedback and i will explain but seems that your starter is fine from what u say but if you think in terms of the elemts to start a vehicle batery gives pwoer to ignition which sends to starter which gives spark etc i would check you ignition system something is causeing a short and not alowing starter to function

Connect battery>>>>try unlocking the vehicle from the inside (door closed), using the power un/lock button. Make sure the key is set to the "on" position. Most of the time this works. If this doesnt work, try using the key to lock and unlock the door through the key hole. Hopefully this helps!!
