Pry the tensioner with appropiate tool, then pull the belt off the alternator pulley before releasing the tensioner. Note the routing of belt before doing this job. Make sure the new belt is same length before putting back on, reverse the procedure.

If its the 3.1 liter with the upper engine mount on the passenger side of the motor than no. You will need to remove the mount.
The good news is is its not that hard to do. Place a jack under the oil pan with a block of would between the jack and the oil pan and the trans pan as far to the passenger side as you can and still be able to touch both pans with the block of wood.
Jack up the motor just enough so that it just start to push up on the motor mount. Remove the bolts that hold it to the bracket on the engine. Remove the retainer for the cruise, if equipped, unplug the cruise and set aside. Remove the nut from the mount on top and the two bolts from inner fender.
Jack up the motor just enough to remove the mount.
You'll then be able to replace the belt.

no not if its the 3.1, to change the belt. remove from pulleys, put a suitable jack under left front of engine to support it. put a piece of wood on jack to prevent oil pan damage.a 2x4 works good . just put slight pressure on engine, then remove the motor mount. replace the belt and put the mount back on. let the jack down when done. thats it! I just replaced mine on a 2000 malibu 3.1, this last spring. have a good one !!
