Most current antifreeze solutions say they can be mixed with any color, but I believe the dex cool is the exception to this rule. I would double check with the dealer mechanic to be sure.

Upon further checking, if you do it want to use dex cool, you could always flush the system and switch to another type of anti freeze.

1997 Buick park ave why is my coolant brown

It should be orange if it Dexcool. Which all aluminum head GM engines switched too. If typical (green) antifreeze is added to dexcool, it goes thru a reaction that will not let it flow thru the cooling system fast enough or properly which causes hot spots in the block and burns (cooks) the antifreeze. have the system flushed and refilled with the correct coolant and you engine will love ya for it

Does a 1998 buick park aveune have orange-redish antifreeze?

It probably did when it was new. Most GM products with aluminum radiators used orange DexCool in the 1990s.
Today you can buy universal coolant that can be added to any color.

I have a 2002 buick century custom. Apparently there is a problem with the antifreeze that was used in these vehicles. What do I need to do to repair the damage caused by this problem

You need to drain the old antifreeze and flush the entire cooling system with a commercial product such as Prestone Super Flush. After flushing according to the directions on the product you will want to fill the cooling sysstem with plain water and let it circulate through the system. Drain the system again and repeat the process until the water is clear of any antifreeze. Refill the system with the proper mixture of antifreeze. Make sure you use a quality antifreeze that is compatible with your make and model of car. The auto parts store personnel can help you select the right antifreeze. DO NOT refill it with Dexcool. That is the antifreeze that GM put in originally that is causing the problems. Dexcool not only forms a gummy sludge in the cooling system, it also attacks certain gasket materials and causes coolant to leak into the engine. Hopefully, this hasn't happened yet.

Past in radiator

Caused by dexcool antifreeze. Flush the cooling system and refill with a green antifreeze that is compatible with aluminum engine parts.

What kind of cooland to i put in my 1997 buick lesabre?

I would put any major brand of antifreeze/coolant that has ethylene glycol in it.
Green is the most common.
5 year warranties are found on the type that mixes with any type of antifreeze.
The Dexcool may be more money but I've found it isn't any better than the regular antifreeze.

Good luck on this repair.

Is the 'low coolant' light a danger?

It is only a danger if you run critically low as you run the risk of overheating your engine which can cause you a myriad of problems.

Take a couple minutes and stop by an anuto parts store, pick up a gallon and add it with water to the coolant reservoir.

I always say better safe than sorry.

Kee p an eye on the reservoir. If it starts to go down, you've got a coolant leak you should take care of.

Low Coolant Light

Why is it low? Leaking? The dumbest thing they sell is a 50/50 mix of antifreeze. You are getting 50% water and 50% coolant. Just buy a 100% antifreeze jug add it first and top it off with water. If the water is not low you may hve a bad coolant level sensor. It snaps into the radiator tank and is easy to replace when cold.

Is the coolant full ? Any discoloring of the coolant ,look like muddy water ? gm dexcool antifreeze if mixed with regular green coolant can gum up the works , clog heater cores , radiators etc.... Have you ever had the thermostat changed , cooling system flushed ?
