Won't drive or shift in 3rd gear but will reverse first and second gear


If it won't shift to 3rd and stays in second, bad shift solenoid/s. If it shifts and the transmission drops out(high RPM's), the bad clutches in the transmission. Rebuild. Solenoids around $600 to replace. Transmission rebuild around $2200.

Nissan versa automatic not cvt i did a full transmission cleaning and rebuild, i have P,R,N,1. Drive and second are not engaging, what could it be?shift solenoids?shifter switch not properly adjusted?


If you did a complete rebuild you did something wrong. If you did a partial and did not replace your solenoids then that could easily be the problem.

I suspect that it is due for a rebuild & that is the $2000.00

A lot of work to change the solenoid & you know the transaxle
is 10 years old.

I would opt for a GM Reman Certa vs: rebuilding yours or
doing the solenoid.

Sounds like Solenoid. U can replace it if you know how to do a starter rebuild. Go to local auto store and see if they have it or a rebuild kit. Otherwise just buy a new/ rebuilt starter and put that in.

Vehical acts as if it shifts between gears at a


The possibilities are:
low/high trans fluid level
short or open in LR pressure switch circuit
solenoid pack internal problem
40-way connector problem (9, 47, or 50 cavity)
control module failure
and then internal transmission problem (the rebuild).
Another table lists these possibilities:
faulty cooling system
torque converter clutch failure (that requires removal)
internal solenoid leak
too high or too low pressure
valve body leak
regulator valve
stuck/sticky valves
worn or damaged accumulator seal rings
damaged clutch seals
damaged L/R clutch
worn pump

Only the seal rings and L/R clutch damage and torque converter clutch failure would dictate a rebuild.
All the other items are serviceable without removing the trans, and involve the solenoid box for the most part which is external and accessible. So armed with these possible causes I would shop around to find a trans shop that would take a look at the alternatives to a rebuild job. The rebuild is in the range of $2k, so spending some time on the alternatives seems to be in order.

Transmission.


It's not out of the ordinary,Toyota's break too,and the car is 10 years old now.Have the car scanned for diagnostic trouble codes,as it could possibly be a shift solenoid fault.The solenoids can also be ohms and amps checked to see if in specification.electrically.You might opt to have the solenoids replaced anyways,as that's standard procedure as part of a rebuild.If the solenoids do not fix it,it will likely need a rebuild as the rubber lip seals inside transmissions become hard and brittle with age and hot/cold cycles,and simply do not seal as well as they did 10 years ago when new.So,if in the end run,.it does require a rebuild,at least the solenoids will already be new as like i said,replacing the solenoids is standard procedure as part of a rebuild.Or you could just opt to trade the car in,or sell it.Good luck.
