The filter for a truck TBI would be under the floor between the gas tank and the engine. Its attached to the frame.

do you have any check engine lights on? If you do, that is the first thing I would have checked. It does sound like plugged EGR, vacuum leak, or bad TPS

SOURCE: I have a 93 GMC sierra that has a lot of trouble

Turn the key on and go have a coffee. If the fuel pump is running it does not mean that is pumping enough fuel to start, the motor may be good but the pump wore out.Try a shot of fuel in the throttle body to see if it starts quicker,if so then you either need a pump or a filter.[you already tried a filter so i'm leading to pump or restricted fuel lines].

I have a 91 GMC suburban that has been sitting for a year I changed the oil and the fuel filter and repaired fuel line among lots of other things the truck started up then shuts off an smokes black

How long since over-all tune-up? Any applicable trouble codes? You may need fresh fuel? If your check engine lite still works, you should be able to check some codes, yourself? I don't know liter size of engine?
Is the vehicle flooding? Use a gage and check proper fuel pressure. Do you have tbi fuel injection, fuel injector/s in the throttle body. If so, the fuel pressure is 9--13 psi. Also, the coolant temp sensor could cause it to flood. Could be other issues?

97 gmc siera on cold days have to dump fuel into throttle body to start, runs fine after??

look into throttle body while cranking.see if you see fuel spray.if not, low fuel pressure of pluged fuel filter. also coolant temp or tps sensor could be at fault.have vehicle sensors scan tested for values..

91 3/4 ton 4x4,454.idle falls off&dies when stopping or when shifted from fwd to rev. no codes tried iac motor but no change.

You may have a body throttle position senson. You need a scanner to confirm that. You may have a vacuum leak somewhere around the throttle body. You may have a fuel pump getting weak so I would check fuel pressure. You may have an EGR valve that is partially stuck open.

My truck is back firing through the carb and i have a 40 psi with a 2 barrel rochester throttle body carb

You don't mention any other recent work, but backfiring is frequently a timing issue. It would be a good idea to get a timing check done.

I have a 91 suburban and it wont hold idle. I am waiting for and egr valve. if that fixes it i will let you know. I was told that they can have an internal vacuum leak therefore being difficult to detect.
