Question about Cars & Trucks
Most carbureted engines had a solenoid controlled needle situated in the idle circuit of the carby body. This is to stop engine run on when the ignition is turned off. If you engine will not run or idle then this solenoid is faulty or simply not connected to the power supply. as to fuel pump may be faulty simply disconnect a fuel line and see if fuel flows out when the ignition is on.

Possibly the fuel pump needs to be replaced.

SOURCE: wont strat
Hello thank you for using FixYa.com for your answer my name is David.
You say it wont start in the normal way by just turning it on but if you pour gas in the throttle body
it will start sounds like you have a weak fuel pump most likely but there are a few other things that could cause it also .
1 Inspect Battery Damaged or faulty battery and/or connections. 2 Inspect Coil - Ignition Damaged or faulty ignition coil or ignition coil circuit. 3 Inspect Fuel Filter Clogged or dirty fuel filter 4 Inspect Fuel Injector Pressure Regulator Faulty fuel injector pressure regulator or circuit. 5 Inspect Fuel Pump Improperly functioning fuel pump or circuits. 6 Inspect Wireset Damaged, worn, or deteriorating spark plug or coil wire(s). 7 Inspect Control Module-Ignition Faulty ignition control module or circuit. 8 Inspect Solenoid Switch Damaged or faulty solenoid switch or solenoid switch circuit. 9 Inspect Starter Damaged, worn, defective, or faulty starter or starter related circuit. 10 Inspect Neutral Safety Switch Damaged or faulty neutral safety swittch or circuit. 11 Inspect Air Charge Sensor Damaged or faulty air charge sensor or air charge sensor circuit. 12 Inspect Fuse Corroded, burned, or shorted fuse may be interupting power source.

SOURCE: won't hold fuel pressure
Check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve, there should be 60,PSI to 65,PSI for the poppet injectors to work. If the pressure is correct then there is a good chance that the Spider injection system may have gone bad. Recap. Check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve to make sure the Fuel pump is not going bad. There is a valve at the fuel pump that holds the residual pressure in the system, try cycling the ignition three times. Turn the ignition to the run position for 5 seconds and turn it off and do it again for 3 cycles to pressurize the fuel line and see if it starts. If it does not start then check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve. Make sure you have the proper pressure to activate the injector system. If not then get the injector system check for bad wire harness and see if you can smell gas leaking. Oh and the easiest thing to do is change the fuel filter too. Good luck and keep me posted and if you get a chance get the ECM scanned at Auto Zone for free and look for any DTC codes if any have it cleared. Good luck and keep me posted
