How would I fix the switch?

  • madmaxx Jan 04, 2013

the one on the dash, you might have to get a whole cluster, try getting one out of a junk yard. i doubt you can only get that one switch by itself

SOURCE: How do you replace blower motor resistor on a 2004

Here is how to change the resistor- but also pay attention-
Did you also change the connector at the same time?
If you are changing the resistor due to overheating and melting of plastic, then you need to do the connector also, or else it will repeat fail in a very short time.

Here is a step-by-step check you can do to fix it. If you are onlygetting high speed (setting 5), then most likely you have a resistorproblem, or the wiring connector to the resistor is bad. The groundwire prong being bad is a possible cause.

Check this for step-by-step checks:

Blower fan works on high only

sounds like your blower motor resistor has failed. its built into the blower motor housing. its a component that reduces voltage to your blower motor resulting in different speed settings.

My 02 Stratus heater only works on high. Any idea

Your blower resistor is bad. It controls the mutiple speeds to allow you to go from low/med/high. When it goes bad you get one speed or no speeds....It's about $20-$50 at any local auto parts store. It mounted directly to the speed switch or on the heater plenum unit on the passenger side behind the glove box....

Plymouth Breeze - Fan blower works only on high speed

When a resister shorts it can take some of the wiring with it. Need to trace the wiring back to the motor and see if there is any melted areas that need to be replaced.

Sounds like a blower motor resistor, located behind the glove box in the side of the blower motor housing.
