Steering wanders will be pulling left down the road, hit a bump and starts pulling right and so on. front and rear bushings and components seem fine

Mr. Craigie, The front suspension of the grand Vitara has low Suspension with Lower Wishbones mounted on rubber mountings which mostly the rear round mounting rubber splits. Since you said that you hit a bump ,check carefully the rubber mounting. Also check the shock Absorber on both front sides and see whether if any one seized.

The clunking noise is now a grinding noise in the front driver side. I am told that it is a part attached to the steering box component.


Get it to a reputable suspension shop to have it checked out,if it was said a part on the steering then you don't want to risk losing steering when the worn parts break.Speculating it could be tie rods,sway bar links,ball joints,bushings etc etc everything that moves when you hit the bumps.

This is a very typical issue on lifted vehicles being driven on the street. It is important to know that when a vehicle is lifted, the steering and suspension geometry change and characteristics will change as well.
My first concern would be with front wheel alignment. If front caster angles are too severe, the will fight each other over rough surfaces and cause the truck to wander or feel like a shake.
Also, front toe angles are crucial for proper tire wear and stability.
Have the front end aligned and checked. If there are no alignment issues, focus on the shocks and that steering stabilizer. Was the problem there before you installed the stabilizer? If not, check it for proper oil/ gas charge.
Weak or worn shocks will cause the tires to bounce and leave the road over bumps. Since the truck and been lifted, make sure the shocks are the proper length. If they are too short (even by as little as 20mm), they cause rebound problems and make the opposing side overcompensate with a bouncing effect.

Rumble from front? rear? left or right side?
And shake in the steering wheel?
How big a bump and how fast were you going?
Was the rumble instant after the bump?
Is it constantly making the noise or now and again?

While driving down the road, if when you hit a bump, and your car's front end seems to shake or your steering wheel shakes from the bump; that is a good sign to have your ball joints looked at.

The steering seems to wonder in low speeds especially when you hit a bump or the middle white line


Your front end alignment is out. It could be something as simple as a toe setting that needs adjusting. It could also be caused by worn or damaged front suspension parts. And, you can't rule out low tire pressure. One extremely low tire,esspecially if it is a rear tire will cause the car to wander. If the steering is pulling to the right or left, it could have a bad radial tire. If a radial tire goes bad, it loses it's grip, causing the car to pull toward the good tire. Unless it's on the rear, in which case you would not feel it pulling, rather it would be more like the rear was slipping or "fish-tailiang". If the problem came on suddenly, and you haven't hit any curbs or huge potholes, I would think it is a low tire. If you don't find a low tire, then you need to get to a front end alignment shop. Make sure they inspect the suspension for worn or damaged parts.

My grand limited jeep cherokee shakes when I am going over 45 mphs and I hit a bump in the road. How can I fix it. I had the track bar replace front end alinement two new tires tires balance and rotate now...


Hitting a bump and then having oscillations of the steering whell is a sure sign of worn bushings, tie rod ends or an internally worn power steering box. The only way to find out is to jak the front of the car up and then rest the car on jack stands from the FRAME of the far. Then grasp each tire / wheel at 3 and 9 o'clock pushing and pulling while checking for any signs of movement or looseness. Your checking the ball joints, control arms, wheel or spindle bearings and tie rods for wear. Also grasp the tire at 6 and 12 o'clock positions and check for movement in sterring components. The people that did the alignment should have mentioned that you had steering or suspension component wear. They also should have stated that they can not do an alignment without repairing / replacing the worn components. Any wear in steering or suspension parts will cause the symptom that you described. If you just had the alignment.... take the car back to the shop and have them re-check the suspension parts for wear. Most alignments come with a 30 day warranty.

May check your ball joints and tie rods. Also could be your shocks.
